  那時,眾多比丘去見世尊。抵達後,向世尊問訊後,在一旁坐下。世尊對在一旁坐下的那些比丘說這個:
  「比丘們!有一法已修習、已多作,使四法完成;四法已修習、已多作,使七法完成;七法已修習、已多作,使二法完成嗎?」
  「大德!我們的法以世尊為根本……(中略)聽聞世尊的[教說]後,比丘們將會憶持。」
  「比丘們!有一法修習、已多作,使四法完成;四法已修習、已多作,使七法完成;七法已修習、已多作,使二法完成。
  比丘們!而什麼是一法,已修習、已多作,使四法完成;四法已修習、已多作,使七法完成;七法已修習、已多作,使二法完成?比丘們!入出息念之定是一法,已修習、已多作,使四念住完成;四念住已修習、已多作,使七覺支完成;七覺支已修習、已多作,使明與解脫完成。
  比丘們!而怎樣入出息念之定已修習、怎樣已多作,使四念住完成呢?比丘們!這裡,到林野的,或到樹下的,或到空屋的比丘坐下,盤腿、定置端直的身體、建立面前的念後他只具念地吸氣、只具念地呼氣:
  ……(中略)
  學習:『隨看斷念地,我將吸氣。』學習:『隨看斷念地,我將呼氣。』
  比丘們!比丘凡在當吸氣長時,知道:『我吸氣長。』或當呼氣長時,知道:『我呼氣長。』或當吸氣短時,知道:『我吸氣短。』……(中略)經驗一切身地……(中略)學習:『使身行寧靜地,我將吸氣。』學習:『使身行寧靜地,我將呼氣。』時,比丘們!在那時,比丘在身上隨看身地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。那是什麼原因?比丘們!我說這是身的一種,即:吸氣、呼氣。比丘們!因此,在這裡,在那時,比丘在身上隨看身地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。
  比丘們!比丘凡在……經驗喜地……(中略)經驗樂地……(中略)經驗心行地……(中略)學習:『使心行寧靜地,我將吸氣。』學習:『使心行寧靜地,我將呼氣。』時,比丘們!在那時,比丘在諸受上隨看受地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。那是什麼原因?比丘們!我說這是受的一種,即:吸氣、呼氣的好好作意。比丘們!因此,在這裡,在那時,比丘在諸受上隨看受地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。
  比丘們!比丘凡在……經驗心地……(中略)使心極喜悅地……(中略)他學習:『集中心地,我將吸氣。』學習:『集中心地,我將呼氣。』學習:『使心解脫地,我將吸氣。』學習:『使心解脫地,我將呼氣。』時,比丘們!在那時,比丘在心上隨看心地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。那是什麼原因?比丘們!我不說念已忘失、不正知者有入出息念之定的修習。比丘們!因此,在這裡,在那時,比丘在心上隨看心地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。
  比丘們!比丘凡在……隨看無常地……(中略)隨看離貪地……(中略)隨看滅地……(中略)他學習:『隨看斷念地,我將吸氣。』學習:『隨看斷念地,我將呼氣。』時,比丘們!在那時,比丘在諸法上隨看法地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。凡他以慧看見後有貪婪、憂的捨斷,他是善旁觀者。比丘們!因此,在這裡,在那時,比丘在諸法上隨看法地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。
  比丘們!這樣,入出息念之定已修習、這樣已多作,使四念住完成。
  比丘們!而四念住怎樣已修習、怎樣已多作,使七覺支完成呢?
  比丘們!凡在比丘住於在身上看到身時,在那時,比丘的念被現起,不被忘失。比丘們!凡在比丘的念被現起,不被忘失時,在那時,比丘的念覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習念覺支,在那時,比丘的念覺支走到修習圓滿。
  那位住於像這樣念者以慧考察(簡擇)、伺察、來到審慮那個法。比丘們!凡在住於像這樣念的比丘以慧考察、伺察、來到審慮那個法時,在那時,比丘的擇法覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習擇法覺支,在那時,比丘的擇法覺支走到修習圓滿。
  那位以慧考察、伺察、來到審慮那個法者的不退縮的活力被發動。比丘們!凡在比丘以慧考察、伺察、來到審慮那個法的不退縮的活力被發動時,在那時,比丘的活力覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習活力覺支,在那時,比丘的活力覺支走到修習圓滿。
  活力被發動者精神的喜生起。比丘們!凡在活力被發動比丘的精神的喜生起時,比丘的喜覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習喜覺支,在那時,比丘的喜覺支走到修習圓滿。
  意喜者的身變得寧靜(輕安),心也變得寧靜。比丘們!凡在意喜比丘的身變得寧靜、心也變得寧靜時,在那時,比丘的寧靜覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習寧靜覺支,在那時,比丘的寧靜覺支走到修習圓滿。
  身寧靜者、有樂者的心入定。比丘們!凡在身寧靜、有樂比丘的心入定時,比丘的覺支就被發動,在那時,比丘修習定覺支,在那時,比丘的定覺支走到修習圓滿。
  那位心像這樣得定者成為善旁觀者。比丘們!凡在比丘心像這樣得定者成為善旁觀者時,在那時,比丘的平靜覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習平靜覺支,那時,比丘的平靜覺支走到修習圓滿。
  比丘們!凡在比丘住於在諸受上……(中略)在心上……(中略)在諸法上隨看法地住時,在那時,那位比丘的念被現起,不被忘失。比丘們!凡在比丘的念被現起,不被忘失時,在那時,比丘的念覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習念覺支,在那時,比丘的念覺支走到修習圓滿。……(中略)
  那位心像這樣得定者成為善旁觀者。比丘們!凡在比丘心像這樣得定者成為善旁觀者時,在那時,比丘的平靜覺支被發動,在那時,比丘修習平靜覺支,在那時,比丘的平靜覺支走到修習圓滿。
  比丘們!這樣,四念住已修習、這樣已多作,使七覺支完成。
  比丘們!七覺支怎樣已修習、怎樣已多作,使明與解脫完成?比丘們!這裡,比丘依止遠離、依止離貪、依止滅、捨棄的成熟修習念覺支,依止遠離、依止離貪、依止滅、捨棄的成熟修習擇法覺支……(中略)依止遠離、依止離貪、依止滅、捨棄的成熟修習平靜覺支。
  比丘們!這樣,七覺支已修習、這樣已多作,使明與解脫完成。」
SN.54.16/(6) Dutiyabhikkhusuttaṃ
   992. Atha kho sambahulā bhikkhū yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Ekamantaṃ nisinne kho te bhikkhū bhagavā etadavoca– “atthi nu kho, bhikkhave, ekadhammo bhāvito bahulīkato cattāro dhamme paripūreti, cattāro dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā satta dhamme paripūrenti, satta dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā dve dhamme paripūrentī”ti? “Bhagavaṃmūlakā no, bhante, dhammā …pe… bhagavato sutvā bhikkhū dhāressantī”ti. “Atthi, bhikkhave, ekadhammo bhāvito bahulīkato cattāro dhamme paripūreti, cattāro dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā satta dhamme paripūrenti, satta dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā dve dhamme paripūrenti”.
   “Katamo ca, bhikkhave, ekadhammo bhāvito bahulīkato cattāro dhamme paripūreti, cattāro dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā satta dhamme paripūrenti, satta dhammā bhāvitā bahulīkatā dve dhamme paripūrenti? Ānāpānassatisamādhi, bhikkhave, ekadhammo bhāvito bahulīkato cattāro satipaṭṭhāne paripūreti, cattāro satipaṭṭhānā bhāvitā bahulīkatā satta bojjhaṅge paripūrenti, satta bojjhaṅgā bhāvitā bahulīkatā vijjāvimuttiṃ paripūrentīti.
   “Kathaṃ bhāvito ca, bhikkhave, ānāpānassatisamādhi kathaṃ bahulīkato cattāro satipaṭṭhāne paripūreti? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu araññagato vā rukkhamūlagato vā suññāgāragato vā nisīdati pallaṅkaṃ ābhujitvā ujuṃ kāyaṃ paṇidhāya parimukhaṃ satiṃ upaṭṭhapetvā. So satova assasati, satova passasati …pe… ‘paṭinissaggānupassī assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘paṭinissaggānupassī passasissāmī’ti sikkhati”.
   “Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu dīghaṃ vā assasanto ‘dīghaṃ assasāmī’ti pajānāti, dīghaṃ vā passasanto ‘dīghaṃ passasāmī’ti pajānāti, rassaṃ vā assasanto ‘rassaṃ assasāmī’ti pajānāti …pe… sabbakāyappaṭisaṃvedī …pe… ‘passambhayaṃ kāyasaṅkhāraṃ assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘passambhayaṃ kāyasaṅkhāraṃ passasissāmī’ti sikkhati– kāye kāyānupassī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ. Taṃ kissa hetu? Kāyaññatarāhaṃ, bhikkhave, etaṃ vadāmi, yadidaṃ– assāsapassāsaṃ. Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, kāye kāyānupassī bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ.
   “Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu pītippaṭisaṃvedī …pe… sukhappaṭisaṃvedī …pe… cittasaṅkhārappaṭisaṃvedī …pe… ‘passambhayaṃ cittasaṅkhāraṃ assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘passambhayaṃ cittasaṅkhāraṃ passasissāmī’ti sikkhati– vedanāsu vedanānupassī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ. Taṃ kissa hetu? Vedanāññatarāhaṃ, bhikkhave, etaṃ vadāmi, yadidaṃ– assāsapassāsānaṃ sādhukaṃ manasikāraṃ. Tasmātiha bhikkhave, vedanāsu vedanānupassī bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ.
   “Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cittappaṭisaṃvedī …pe… abhippamodayaṃ cittaṃ …pe… ‘samādahaṃ cittaṃ assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘samādahaṃ cittaṃ passasissāmī’ti sikkhati; ‘vimocayaṃ cittaṃ assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘vimocayaṃ cittaṃ passasissāmī’ti sikkhati– citte cittānupassī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ. Taṃ kissa hetu? Nāhaṃ, bhikkhave, muṭṭhassatissa asampajānassa ānāpānassatisamādhibhāvanaṃ vadāmi. Tasmātiha, bhikkhave citte cittānupassī bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ.
   “Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu aniccānupassī …pe… virāgānupassī …pe… nirodhānupassī …pe… ‘paṭinissaggānupassī assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘paṭinissaggānupassī passasissāmī’ti sikkhati– dhammesu dhammānupassī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ. So yaṃ taṃ hoti abhijjhādomanassānaṃ pahānaṃ taṃ paññāya disvā sādhukaṃ ajjhupekkhitā hoti. Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, dhammesu dhammānupassī bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye viharati ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ.
   “Evaṃ bhāvito kho, bhikkhave, ānāpānassatisamādhi evaṃ bahulīkato cattāro satipaṭṭhāne paripūreti.
   “Kathaṃ bhāvitā ca, bhikkhave, cattāro satipaṭṭhānā kathaṃ bahulīkatā satta bojjhaṅge paripūrenti? Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati– upaṭṭhitāssa tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno sati hoti asammuṭṭhā. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno upaṭṭhitā sati hoti asammuṭṭhā– satisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, satisambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, satisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “So tathā sato viharanto taṃ dhammaṃ paññāya pavicinati pavicarati parivīmaṃsamāpajjati. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tathā sato viharanto taṃ dhammaṃ paññāya pavicinati pavicarati parivīmaṃsamāpajjati– dhammavicayasambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, dhammavicayasambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, dhammavicayasambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “Tassa taṃ dhammaṃ paññāya pavicinato pavicarato parivīmaṃsamāpajjato āraddhaṃ hoti vīriyaṃ asallīnaṃ. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno taṃ dhammaṃ paññāya pavicinato pavicarato parivīmaṃsamāpajjato āraddhaṃ hoti vīriyaṃ asallīnaṃ– vīriyasambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, vīriyasambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, vīriyasambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “Āraddhavīriyassa uppajjati pīti nirāmisā. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno āraddhavīriyassa uppajjati pīti nirāmisā– pītisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, pītisambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, pītisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “Pītimanassa kāyopi passambhati, cittampi passambhati. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno pītimanassa kāyopi passambhati, cittampi passambhati– passaddhisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, passaddhisambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, passaddhisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “Passaddhakāyassa sukhino cittaṃ samādhiyati. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno passaddhakāyassa sukhino cittaṃ samādhiyati– samādhisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, samādhisambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, samādhisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “So tathāsamāhitaṃ cittaṃ sādhukaṃ ajjhupekkhitā hoti. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tathāsamāhitaṃ cittaṃ sādhukaṃ ajjhupekkhitā hoti– upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, upekkhāsambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati.
   “Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vedanāsu …pe… citte …pe… dhammesu dhammānupassī viharati– upaṭṭhitāssa tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno sati hoti asammuṭṭhā. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno upaṭṭhitā sati hoti asammuṭṭhā– satisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, satisambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti– satisambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati …pe….
   So tathāsamāhitaṃ cittaṃ sādhukaṃ ajjhupekkhitā hoti. Yasmiṃ samaye, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tathāsamāhitaṃ cittaṃ sādhukaṃ ajjhupekkhitā hoti– upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno āraddho hoti, upekkhāsambojjhaṅgaṃ tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu bhāveti, upekkhāsambojjhaṅgo tasmiṃ samaye bhikkhuno bhāvanāpāripūriṃ gacchati. Evaṃ bhāvitā kho, bhikkhave, cattāro satipaṭṭhānā evaṃ bahulīkatā satta bojjhaṅge paripūrenti.
   “Kathaṃ bhāvitā ca, bhikkhave, satta bojjhaṅgā kathaṃ bahulīkatā vijjāvimuttiṃ paripūrenti? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu satisambojjhaṅgaṃ bhāveti vivekanissitaṃ virāganissitaṃ nirodhanissitaṃ vossaggapariṇāmiṃ; dhammavicayasambojjhaṅgaṃ bhāveti vivekanissitaṃ virāganissitaṃ nirodhanissitaṃ vossaggapariṇāmiṃ …pe… upekkhāsambojjhaṅgaṃ bhāveti vivekanissitaṃ virāganissitaṃ nirodhanissitaṃ vossaggapariṇāmiṃ.
