  我聞如是
  一時遊舍衛國,在勝林給孤獨園。
  爾時,世尊告諸比丘
  「我今為汝說法,初妙、中妙、竟亦妙,有義有文具足清淨顯現梵行,謂:分別意行經、如意行生。諦聽!諦聽!善思念之。」
  時,諸比丘受教而聽。
  佛言:
  「云何意行生?若有比丘離欲、離惡不善之法,有覺、有觀離生喜、樂,得初禪成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生梵身天中。諸梵身天者,生彼、住彼,受離生喜、樂,及比丘住此,入初禪,受離生喜、樂,此二離生喜、樂無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生梵身天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘覺、觀已息,內{靖}[靜]一心,無覺、無觀,定生喜、樂,得第二禪成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生晃昱天中。諸晃昱天者,生彼、住彼,受定生喜、樂,及比丘住此,入第二禪,受定生喜、樂,此二定生喜、樂無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生晃昱天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘離於喜欲,捨無求遊,正念、正智而身覺樂,謂:聖所說、聖所捨、念、樂住{室?},得第三禪成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生遍淨天中。諸遍淨天者,生彼、住彼,受無喜、樂,及比丘住此,入第三禪,受無喜、樂,此二無喜、樂無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生遍淨天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘樂滅、苦滅,喜、憂本已滅,不苦不樂、捨念清淨,得第四禪成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生果實天中。諸果實天者,生彼、住彼,受捨念清淨樂,及比丘住此,入第四禪,受捨念清淨樂,此二捨念清淨樂無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生果實天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘度一切色想,滅有對想,不念若干想,無量空,是無量空處成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生無量空處天中。諸無量空處天者,生彼、住彼,受無量空處想,及比丘住此,受無量空處想,此二無量空處想無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生無量空處天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘度無量空處,無量識,是無量識處成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生無量識處天中。諸無量識處天者,生彼、住彼,受無量識處想,及比丘住此,受無量識處想,此二無量識處想無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生無量識處天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘度無量識處,無所有,是無所有處成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生無所有處天中。諸無所有處天者,生彼、住彼,受無所有處想,及比丘住此,受無所有處想,此二無所有處想無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生無所有處天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘度一切無所有處想,非有想非無想,是非有想非無想處成就遊,彼此定樂、欲、住,彼此定樂、欲、住已,必有是處:住彼、樂彼,命終生非有想非無想處天中。諸非有想非無想處天者,生彼、住彼,受非有想非無想處想,及比丘住此,受非有想非無想處想,此二想無有差別,二俱等等,所以者何?先此行定,然後生彼,彼此定如是修、如是習、如是廣布,生非有想非無想處天中,如是,意行生。
  復次,比丘度一切非有想非無想處,想知滅身觸成就遊,慧見諸盡斷智。彼諸定中,此定說最第一、最大、最上、最勝、最妙,猶如因牛有乳,因乳有酪,因酪有生酥,因生酥有熟酥,因熟酥有酥精。酥精者說最第一、最大、最上、最勝、最妙。如是,彼諸定中,此定說最第一、最大、最上、最勝、最妙。得此定、依此定、住此定已,不復受生老病死苦,是說苦邊。」
  佛說如是,彼諸比丘聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

  被我這麼聽聞
  有一次世尊住在舍衛城祇樹林給孤獨園。
  在那裡,世尊召喚比丘們:「比丘們!」
  「尊師!」那些比丘回答世尊。
  世尊說這個:
  「比丘們!我將為你們教導行的往生,你們要聽它!你們要好好作意!我將說。」
  「是的,大德!」那些比丘回答世尊。

  「比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒,具備聽聞的,具備施捨,具備慧,他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生富裕(大家屋)剎帝利們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(161)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒,具備聽聞的,具備施捨,具備慧,他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生富裕婆羅門們的……(中略)富裕屋主們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(162)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒,具備聽聞的,具備施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『四大天王諸天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生四大天王諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(163)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒,具備聽聞的,具備施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『三十三天的諸天……(中略)諸焰摩天……(中略)諸兜率天……(中略)諸化樂天……(中略)諸他化自在天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生他化自在諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(164)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒,具備聽聞的,具備施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『一千梵天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』比丘們!一千梵天對一千個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。比丘們!猶如有眼男子置(作)一粒蓖麻在手掌上後省察。同樣的,比丘們!一千梵天對一千個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生一千梵天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(165)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『二千梵天……(中略)三千梵天……(中略)四千梵天……(中略)五千梵天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』比丘們!五千梵天對五千個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。比丘們!猶如有眼男子置五粒蓖麻在手掌上後省察。同樣的,比丘們!五千梵天對五千個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生五千梵天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(166)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『一萬梵天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』比丘們!一萬梵天對一萬個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。比丘們!猶如美麗的、純正的、八個切割面的、作工細緻的、放在黃毛布上的琉璃寶珠,輝耀、照亮、照耀。同樣的,比丘們!一萬梵天對一萬個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生一萬梵天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(167)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『十萬梵天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』比丘們!十萬梵天對十萬個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。比丘們!猶如熟練作業的鍛工子非常有技術地的在鍛冶爐打造的、放在黃毛布上的閻浮河產的金之金幣,輝耀、照亮、照耀。同樣的,比丘們!十萬梵天對十萬個世間界遍佈、勝解後住,凡連在那裡往生的眾生,也對他們遍佈、勝解後住。他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生十萬梵天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(168)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『光天諸天……(中略)少光天諸天……無量光天諸天……光音天諸天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生光音天諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(169)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『少淨天諸天……(中略)無量淨天諸天……遍淨天諸天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生遍淨天諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(170)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『廣果天諸天……(中略)無煩天諸天……無熱天諸天……善見天諸天……善現天諸天……阿迦膩吒天諸天是長壽的、有美貌的、多樂的。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生阿迦膩吒天諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(171)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『到達虛空無邊處諸天長壽、久住、多樂。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生到達虛空無邊處諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(172)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『到達識無邊處諸天長壽、久住、多樂。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生到達識無邊處諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(173)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,被他聽聞:『到達無所有處諸天……(中略)到達非想非非想處諸天長壽、久住、多樂。』他這麼想:『啊!願我以身體的崩解,死後往生到達非想非非想處諸天們的共住狀態。』他安置那個心,確立那個心,修習那個心,他的那些行與住處這樣已修習、這樣已多作轉起在那裡的往生,比丘們!轉起在那裡的往生,這是道、這是道跡。(174)
  再者,比丘們!這裡,比丘具備信,具備戒……戒……聽聞的……施捨,具備慧,他這麼想:『啊!願我以諸的滅盡,以證智自作證後,在當生中進入後住於無漏心解脫慧解脫。』他以諸漏的滅盡,以證智自作證後,在當生中進入後住於無漏心解脫、慧解脫。比丘們!這位比丘不往生在任何地方。」
  世尊說這個,那些比丘歡喜世尊的所說。(175)

  「比丘們!有這四種現在的世間中存在的人,哪四種?比丘們!這裡,某一種人就從離諸欲後,從離諸不善法後,進入後住於有尋、有伺離而生喜、樂的初禪,他樂味那個、欲求那個,以及以那個來到幸福,在那裡,他是已住立者、勝解它者,多住於它者、不衰退者,當命終時,往生梵眾天諸天們的共住狀態。比丘們!梵眾天諸天的壽命量有一劫,在那裡,一般人存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,走到地獄,及走到畜生界,及走到餓鬼界。但世尊的弟子存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,就在那個存在(有)處般涅槃。比丘們!對有聽聞的聖弟子與未聽聞的一般人,這是差別,這是不同,這是區別,即:在有往生趣處上。
  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種人從尋與伺的平息,自身內的明淨心的專一性,進入後住於無尋、無伺,定而生喜、樂的第二禪,他樂味那個、欲求那個,以及以那個來到幸福,在那裡,他是已住立者、勝解它者,多住於它者、不衰退者,當命終時,往生光音天諸天們的共住狀態。比丘們!光音天諸天的壽命量有二劫,在那裡,一般人存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,走到地獄,及走到畜生界,及走到餓鬼界。但世尊的弟子存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,就在那個存在處般涅槃。比丘們!對有聽聞的聖弟子比未聽聞的一般人,這是差別,這是不同,這是區別,即:在有往生趣處上。
  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種人從喜的褪去、住於平靜、有念正知、以身體感受樂,進入後住於凡聖者們告知『他是平靜者、具念者、安樂住者』的第三禪,他樂味那個、欲求那個,以及以那個來到幸福,在那裡,他是已住立者、勝解它者,多住於它者、不衰退者,當命終時,往生遍淨天諸天們的共住狀態。比丘們!遍淨天諸天的壽命量有四劫,在那裡,一般人存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,走到地獄,及走到畜生界,及走到餓鬼界。但世尊的弟子存續壽命之所及,度過所有那個天的壽命量之所及後,就在那個存在處般涅槃。比丘們!對有聽聞的聖弟子比未聽聞的一般人,這是差別,這是不同,這是區別,即:在有往生趣處上。

  「意行生」,南傳作「行的往生」(saṅkhārupapattiṃ),菩提比丘長老英譯為「根據一個人的熱望的再現」(reappearance in accordance with one's aspiration)。按:《破斥猶豫》以「只以行往生(saṅkhārānaṃyeva upapattiṃ),非眾生的、人的,或以福行到達的有之蘊」(na sattassa, na posassa, puññābhisaṅkhārena vā bhavūpagakkhandhānaṃ)解說,但在後段「行與住處」(saṅkhārā ca vihārā)處則以「以連同熱望、信等五法」(saha patthanāya saddhādayova pañca dhammā)解說,也就是以「熱望」解說「行」,長老據此將「行」譯為「熱望」來帶亮要表達的意思(to bring the intended meaning to light)。
  按:《破斥猶豫》說,修習這五法後能出生到欲界,但往生梵天與的滅盡如何達成呢?他住立於這個戒後作遍處準備,修習正受後出生到有色的梵天世界(rūpībrahmaloke);諸無色禪使出生到無色的梵天世界(arūpībrahmaloke);諸正受足處增強毘婆舍那後作證不還果,出生到五淨居天;修習上道(Uparimaggaṃ)後達成的滅盡。
