  在那裡,尊者舍利弗召喚比丘們:
  「學友們!比丘會有像這樣定的獲得:既不是關於地的地想,也不是關於水的水想,不是關於火的火想,不是關於風的風想,不是關於虛空無邊處的虛空無邊處想,不是關於識無邊處的識無邊處想,不是關於無所有處的無所有處想,不是關於非想非非想處的非想非非想處想,不是關於這個世間的這個世間想,不是關於其他世間的其他世間想,凡這個所見、所聞、所覺、所識、所得、所求、被意所隨行在那裡都不想,但還是想嗎?」
  「學友!我們從遠處來到尊者舍利弗的面前想知道這所說的義理,如果尊者舍利弗能說明這所說的義理,那就好了!聽聞尊者舍利弗的[教說]後,學友們將會記住的。」
  「學友們!那樣的話,你們要聽!你們要好好作意!我將說了。」
  「是的,學友!」那些比丘回答尊者舍利弗。
  尊者舍利弗說這個:
  「學友們!比丘會有像這樣定的獲得:既不是關於地的地想……(中略)凡所見、所聞、所覺、所識、所得、所求、被意所隨行在那裡都不想,但還是想。」
  「學友!那麼,如怎樣比丘會有像這樣定的獲得:既不是關於地的地想……(中略)凡所見、所聞、所覺、所識、所得、所求、被意所隨行在那裡都不想,但還是想呢?」
  「學友們!這裡,比丘有這樣的想:『這是寂靜的,這是勝妙的,即:一切行的止、一切依著斷念、渴愛的滅盡、離貪、涅槃。』學友們!這樣,比丘會有既不是關於地的地想,也不是關於水的水想,不是關於火的火想,不是關於風的風想,不是關於虛空無邊處的虛空無邊處想,不是關於識無邊處的識無邊處想,不是關於無所有處的無所有處想,不是關於非想非非想處的非想非非想處想,不是關於這個世間的這個世間想,不是關於其他世間的其他世間想,凡這個所見、所聞、所覺、所識、所得、所求、被意所隨行在那裡都不想,但還是想。」

   慈、八、牧牛者,四則定。」

   21. Tatra kho āyasmā sāriputto bhikkhū āmantesi– “siyā nu kho, āvuso, bhikkhuno tathārūpo samādhipaṭilābho yathā neva pathaviyaṃ pathavisaññī assa, na āpasmiṃ āposaññī assa, na tejasmiṃ tejosaññī assa, na vāyasmiṃ vāyosaññī assa, na ākāsānañcāyatane ākāsānañcāyatanasaññī assa, na viññāṇañcāyatane viññāṇañcāyatanasaññī assa, na ākiñcaññāyatane ākiñcaññāyatanasaññī assa, na nevasaññānāsaññāyatane nevasaññānāsaññāyatanasaññī assa, na idhaloke idhalokasaññī assa, na paraloke paralokasaññī assa, yampidaṃ diṭṭhaṃ sutaṃ mutaṃ viññātaṃ pattaṃ pariyesitaṃ anuvicaritaṃ manasā tatrāpi na saññī assa; saññī ca pana assā”ti?
   “Dūratopi kho mayaṃ, āvuso, āgaccheyyāma āyasmato sāriputtassa santike etassa bhāsitassa atthamaññātuṃ. Sādhu vatāyasmantaṃyeva sāriputtaṃ paṭibhātu etassa bhāsitassa attho. Āyasmato sāriputtassa sutvā bhikkhū dhāressantī”ti.
   “Tenahāvuso, suṇātha, sādhukaṃ manasi karotha bhāsissāmī”ti. “Evamāvuso”ti kho te bhikkhū āyasmato sāriputtassa paccassosuṃ. Āyasmā sāriputto etadavoca –
   “Siyā, āvuso bhikkhuno tathārūpo samādhipaṭilābho yathā neva pathaviyaṃ pathavisaññī assa …pe… yampidaṃ diṭṭhaṃ sutaṃ mutaṃ viññātaṃ pattaṃ pariyesitaṃ anuvicaritaṃ manasā tatrāpi na saññī assa; saññī ca pana assā”ti.
   “Yathā kathaṃ panāvuso, siyā bhikkhuno tathārūpo samādhipaṭilābho yathā neva pathaviyaṃ pathavisaññī assa …pe… yampidaṃ diṭṭhaṃ sutaṃ mutaṃ viññātaṃ pattaṃ pariyesitaṃ anuvicaritaṃ manasā tatrāpi na saññī assa; saññī ca pana assā”ti?
   “Idha, āvuso, bhikkhu evaṃsaññī hoti– ‘etaṃ santaṃ etaṃ paṇītaṃ, yadidaṃ sabbasaṅkhārasamatho sabbūpadhipaṭinissaggo taṇhākkhayo virāgo nirodho nibbānan’ti. Evaṃ kho, āvuso, siyā bhikkhuno tathārūpo samādhipaṭilābho yathā neva pathaviyaṃ pathavisaññī assa, na āpasmiṃ āposaññī assa, na tejasmiṃ tejosaññī assa, na vāyasmiṃ vāyosaññī assa, na ākāsānañcāyatane ākāsānañcāyatanasaññī assa, na viññāṇañcāyatane viññāṇañcāyatanasaññī assa, na ākiñcaññāyatane ākiñcaññāyatanasaññī assa, na nevasaññānāsaññāyatane nevasaññānā-saññāyatanasaññī assa, na idhaloke idhalokasaññī assa na paraloke paralokasaññī assa, yampidaṃ diṭṭhaṃ sutaṃ mutaṃ viññātaṃ pattaṃ pariyesitaṃ anuvicaritaṃ manasā tatrāpi na saññī assa; saññī ca pana assā”ti.
