  在那裡,尊者阿難召喚比丘們:
  「學友們!對破戒者、戒壞失者,無後悔是近因被破壞的;在沒有無後悔時,對無後悔壞失者,欣悅是近因被破壞的;在沒有欣悅時,對欣悅壞失者,喜是近因被破壞的;在沒有喜時,對喜壞失者,寧靜是近因被破壞的;在沒有寧靜時,對寧靜壞失者,樂是近因被破壞的;在沒有樂時,對樂壞失者,正定是近因被破壞的;在沒有正定時,對正定壞失者,如實智見是近因被破壞的;在沒有如實智見時,對如實智見壞失者,與離貪是近因被破壞的;在沒有厭與離貪時,對厭與離貪壞失者,解脫智見是近因被破壞的。
  學友們!猶如枝葉壞失的樹木,它的外皮既不來到完整,內皮也……膚材也……心材也不來到完整。同樣的,學友們!對破戒者、戒壞失者,無後悔是近因被破壞的;在沒有無後悔時,對無後悔壞失者,欣悅是近因被破壞的……(中略)解脫智見是近因被破壞的。
  學友們!對持戒者、戒具足者,不後悔是近因具足的;在有不後悔時,對不後悔具足者,欣悅是近因具足的;在有欣悅時,對欣悅具足者,喜是近因具足的;在有喜時,對喜具足者,寧靜是近因具足的;在有寧靜時,對寧靜具足者,樂是近因具足的;在有樂時,對樂具足者,正定是近因具足的;在有正定時,對正定具足者,如實智見是近因具足的;在有如實智見時,對如實智見具足者,厭、離貪是近因具足的;在有厭與離貪時,對厭與離貪具足者,解脫智見是近因具足的。

   5. Tatra kho āyasmā ānando bhikkhū āmantesi– “dussīlassa, āvuso, sīlavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti avippaṭisāro; avippaṭisāre asati avippaṭisāravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti pāmojjaṃ; pāmojje asati pāmojjavipannassa hatūpanisā hoti pīti; pītiyā asati pītivipannassa hatūpanisā hoti passaddhi; passaddhiyā asati passaddhivipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti sukhaṃ; sukhe asati sukhavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti sammāsamādhi; sammāsamādhimhi asati sammāsamādhivipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti yathābhūtañāṇadassanaṃ; yathābhūtañāṇadassane asati yathābhūtañāṇadassanavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti nibbidāvirāgo; nibbidāvirāge asati nibbidāvirāgavipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ. Seyyathāpi, āvuso, rukkho sākhāpalāsavipanno. Tassa papaṭikāpi na pāripūriṃ gacchati, tacopi… pheggupi… sāropi na pāripūriṃ gacchati. Evamevaṃ kho, āvuso, dussīlassa sīlavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti avippaṭisāro; avippaṭisāre asati avippaṭisāravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti …pe… vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ.
