  「比丘們!每當住林野的龍象前往覓食處時,公象、母象、仔象、幼象一一走在前面,切斷草頂端,比丘們!依此,住林野的龍象厭惡、羞恥、嫌惡。比丘們!每當住林野的龍象前往覓食處時,公象、母象、仔象、幼象吃牠一一破壞的樹枝,比丘們!依此,住林野的龍象厭惡、羞恥、嫌惡。比丘們!每當住林野的龍象入水池時,公象、母象、仔象、幼象一一走在前面以象鼻攪亂水,比丘們!依此,住林野的龍象厭惡、羞恥、嫌惡。每當住林野的龍象出水池時,母象們走來摩擦牠的身體,比丘們!依此,住林野的龍象厭惡、羞恥、嫌惡。
  比丘們!那時,林野的龍象這麼想:『我現在住於被公象、母象、仔象、幼象雜繞,吃頂端被切斷的草,牠們吃我一一破壞的樹枝,我喝混濁的水,當我出水池時,母象們走來摩擦我的身體,讓我從群眾中遠離而住於單獨。』過些時候,牠從群眾中遠離而住於單獨,吃頂端不被切斷的草,牠們不吃我一一破壞的樹枝,牠喝不混濁的水,當我出水池時,母象們不走來摩擦牠的身體。
  比丘們!那時,林野的龍象這麼想:『我以前住於被公象、母象、仔象、幼象雜繞,吃頂端被切斷的草,牠們吃我一一破壞的樹枝,我喝混濁的水,當我出水池時,母象們走來摩擦我的身體,現在,我從群眾中遠離而住於單獨,吃頂端不被切斷的草,牠們不吃我一一破壞的樹枝,我喝不混濁的水,當我出水池時,母象們不走來摩擦我的身體。』牠以象鼻破壞樹枝後,以樹枝摩擦身體,心滿意足地止癢
  同樣的,比丘們!每當比丘住於被比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞優婆夷、國王、國王的大臣、外道、外道弟子雜繞時,那時,比丘這麼想:『我現在住於被比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷、國王、國王的大臣、外道、外道弟子雜繞,讓我從群眾中遠離而住於單獨。』他親近遠離的住處:林野、樹下、山岳、洞窟、山洞、墓地、森林、露地、稻草堆,到林野,或到樹下,或到空屋的他坐下,盤腿、定置端直的身體、建立面前的念後,他捨斷世間中的貪婪,以離貪婪心而住,使心從貪婪淨化。捨斷惡意與瞋怒後,住於無瞋害心的、對一切活的生命類有憐愍的,使心從惡意與瞋怒淨化。捨斷惛沈睡眠後,住於離惛沈睡眠的、有光明想的、具念的、正知的,使心從惛沈睡眠淨化。捨斷掉舉後悔後,住於不掉舉的、內心寂靜的,使心從掉舉後悔淨化。捨斷疑惑後,住於度脫疑惑的、在善法上無疑的,使心從疑惑淨化。他捨斷這些心的隨雜染慧的減弱的五蓋後,就從離諸欲後,從離諸不善法後,進入後住於有尋、有伺離而生喜、樂的初禪,他心滿意足地止癢。從尋與伺的平息……(中略)第二禪……第三禪……第四禪,他心滿意足地止癢
  從一切色想的超越,從有對想的滅沒,從不作意種種想[而知]:『虛空是無邊的』,進入後住於虛空無邊處,他心滿意足地止癢。超越一切識無邊處後[而知]:『什麼都沒有』,進入後住於無所有處……超越一切無所有處後,進入後住於非想非非想處……超越一切非想非非想處後,進入後住於想受滅,且以慧看見後,他的諸被遍滅盡,他心滿意足地止癢。」
AN.9.40/ 9. Nāgasuttaṃ
   40. “Yasmiṃ bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa gocarapasutassa hatthīpi hatthiniyopi hatthikalabhāpi hatthicchāpāpi purato purato gantvā tiṇaggāni chindanti, tena, bhikkhave, āraññiko nāgo aṭṭīyati harāyati jigucchati. Yasmiṃ, bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa gocarapasutassa hatthīpi hatthiniyopi hatthikalabhāpi hatthicchāpāpi obhaggobhaggaṃ sākhābhaṅgaṃ khādanti, tena, bhikkhave, āraññiko nāgo aṭṭīyati harāyati jigucchati. Yasmiṃ bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa ogāhaṃ otiṇṇassa hatthīpi hatthiniyopi hatthikalabhāpi hatthicchāpāpi purato purato gantvā soṇḍāya udakaṃ āloḷenti, tena, bhikkhave, āraññiko nāgo aṭṭīyati harāyati jigucchati. Yasmiṃ, bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa ogāhā uttiṇṇassa hatthiniyo kāyaṃ upanighaṃsantiyo gacchanti, tena, bhikkhave, āraññiko nāgo aṭṭīyati harāyati jigucchati.
   “Tasmiṃ, bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa evaṃ hoti – ‘ahaṃ kho etarahi ākiṇṇo viharāmi hatthīhi hatthinīhi hatthikalabhehi hatthicchāpehi Chinnaggāni ceva tiṇāni khādāmi, obhaggobhaggañca me sākhābhaṅgaṃ khādanti, āvilāni ca pānīyāni pivāmi, ogāhā ca me uttiṇṇassa hatthiniyo kāyaṃ upanighaṃsantiyo gacchanti. Yaṃnūnāhaṃ eko gaṇasmā vūpakaṭṭho vihareyyan’ti. So aparena samayena eko gaṇasmā vūpakaṭṭho viharati, acchinnaggāni ceva tiṇāni khādati, obhaggobhaggañcassa sākhābhaṅgaṃ na khādanti, anāvilāni ca pānīyāni pivati, ogāhā cassa uttiṇṇassa na hatthiniyo kāyaṃ upanighaṃsantiyo gacchanti.
   “Tasmiṃ, bhikkhave, samaye āraññikassa nāgassa evaṃ hoti – ‘ahaṃ kho pubbe ākiṇṇo vihāsiṃ hatthīhi hatthinīhi hatthikalabhehi hatthicchāpehi, chinnaggāni ceva tiṇāni khādiṃ, obhaggobhaggañca me sākhābhaṅgaṃ khādiṃsu, āvilāni ca pānīyāni apāyiṃ, ogāhā ca me uttiṇṇassa hatthiniyo kāyaṃ upanighaṃsantiyo agamaṃsu. Sohaṃ etarahi eko gaṇasmā vūpakaṭṭho viharāmi, acchinnaggāni ceva tiṇāni khādāmi, obhaggobhaggañca me sākhābhaṅgaṃ na khādanti, anāvilāni ca pānīyāni pivāmi, ogāhā ca me uttiṇṇassa na hatthiniyo kāyaṃ upanighaṃsantiyo gacchantī’ti. So soṇḍāya sākhābhaṅgaṃ bhañjitvā sākhābhaṅgena kāyaṃ parimajjitvā attamano soṇḍaṃ saṃharati.
   “Evamevaṃ kho, bhikkhave, yasmiṃ samaye bhikkhu ākiṇṇo viharati bhikkhūhi bhikkhunīhi upāsakehi upāsikāhi raññā rājamahāmattehi titthiyehi titthiyasāvakehi, tasmiṃ, bhikkhave, samaye bhikkhussa evaṃ hoti– ‘ahaṃ kho etarahi ākiṇṇo viharāmi bhikkhūhi bhikkhunīhi upāsakehi upāsikāhi raññā rājamahāmattehi titthiyehi titthiyasāvakehi. Yaṃnūnāhaṃ eko gaṇasmā vūpakaṭṭho vihareyyan’ti. So vivittaṃ senāsanaṃ bhajati araññaṃ rukkhamūlaṃ pabbataṃ kandaraṃ giriguhaṃ susānaṃ vanapatthaṃ abbhokāsaṃ palālapuñjaṃ So araññagato vā rukkhamūlagato vā suññāgāragato vā nisīdati pallaṅkaṃ ābhujitvā ujuṃ kāyaṃ paṇidhāya parimukhaṃ satiṃ upaṭṭhapetvā.
   “So abhijjhaṃ loke pahāya vigatābhijjhena cetasā viharati, abhijjhāya cittaṃ parisodheti; byāpādapadosaṃ pahāya abyāpannacitto viharati sabbapāṇabhūtahitānukampī, byāpādapadosā cittaṃ parisodheti; thinamiddhaṃ pahāya vigatathinamiddho viharati ālokasaññī sato sampajāno, thinamiddhā cittaṃ parisodheti; uddhaccakukkuccaṃ pahāya anuddhato viharati ajjhattaṃ vūpasantacitto, uddhaccakukkuccā cittaṃ parisodheti; vicikicchaṃ pahāya tiṇṇavicikiccho viharati akathaṃkathī kusalesu dhammesu, vicikicchāya cittaṃ parisodheti. So ime pañca nīvaraṇe pahāya cetaso upakkilese paññāya dubbalīkaraṇe vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaṃ savicāraṃ vivekajaṃ pītisukhaṃ paṭhamaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati. So attamano soṇḍaṃ saṃharati. Vitakkavicārānaṃ vūpasamā …pe… dutiyaṃ jhānaṃ… tatiyaṃ jhānaṃ… catutthaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati. So attamano soṇḍaṃ saṃharati.
   “Sabbaso rūpasaññānaṃ samatikkamā paṭighasaññānaṃ atthaṅgamā nānattasaññānaṃ amanasikārā ‘ananto ākāso’ti ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. So attamano soṇḍaṃ saṃharati. Sabbaso ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ samatikkamma ‘anantaṃ viññāṇan’ti viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati… sabbaso viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ samatikkamma ‘natthi kiñcī’ti ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati… sabbaso ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ samatikkamma nevasaññānāsaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati… sabbaso nevasaññānāsaññāyatanaṃ samatikkamma saññāvedayitanirodhaṃ upasampajja viharati, paññāya cassa disvā āsavā parikkhīṇā honti. So attamano soṇḍaṃ saṃharatī”ti. Navamaṃ.
