  那時,某位比丘去見世尊。……(中略)在一旁坐下的那位比丘對世尊說這個:「大德!請世尊為我簡要地教導法,凡我聽聞世尊的法後,會住於單獨的、隱離的、不放逸的、熱心的、自我努力的,那就好了!」「同樣的,又,這裡,一些無用的男子只請求我,但在法被說時,只想我應該被跟隨。」「大德!請世尊為我簡要地教導法,請善逝簡要地教導法,也許我會了知世尊所說的義理,也許我會成為世尊所說的繼承人。」「比丘!因此,這裡,應該被你這麼學:『我的內心將被住立、被善建立,以及心將不被已生起的諸惡不善法持續遍取。』比丘!應該被你這麼學。
  比丘,當你的內心被住立、被善建立,以及心不被已生起的諸惡不善法持續遍取時,比丘!之後,應該被你這麼學:『我的慈心解脫將被修習、被多作、被作為車輛、被作為基礎、被實行、被累積、被善努力。』比丘!應該被你這麼學。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被多作時,比丘!之後,你應該修習這個定:有尋有伺,及修習無尋唯伺,及修習無尋無伺,及修習有的,及修習無喜的,及修習悅意俱行,及修習平靜俱行
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被善修習時,比丘!之後,應該被你這麼學:『我的悲心解脫……我的喜悅心解脫……我的平靜心解脫將被修習、被多作、被作為車輛、被作為基礎、被實行、被累積、被善努力。』比丘!應該被你這麼學。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被多作時,比丘!之後,你應該修習這個定:修習有尋有伺,及修習無尋唯伺,及修習無尋無伺,及修習有喜,及修習無喜,及修習悅意俱行,及修習平靜俱行。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被善修習時,比丘!之後,應該被你這麼學:『我將在身上隨看身地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。』比丘!應該被你這麼學。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被多作時,比丘!之後,你應該修習這個定:修習有尋有伺,及修習無尋唯伺,及修習無尋無伺,及修習有喜,及修習無喜,及修習悅意俱行,及修習平靜俱行。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被善修習時,比丘!之後,應該被你這麼學:『我將在諸受上隨看受地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。』……『我將在心上隨看心地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。』……『我將在諸法上隨看法地住:熱心的、正知的、有念的,調伏世間中的貪婪、憂後。』比丘!應該被你這麼學。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被多作時,比丘!之後,你應該修習這個定:修習有尋有伺,及修習無尋唯伺,及修習無尋無伺,及修習有喜,及修習無喜,及修習悅意俱行,及修習平靜俱行。
  比丘,當這個定這麼被你修習、被善修習時,比丘!之後,你就每個去處將去,都將安樂地去;不論在哪裡將站立,都將安樂地站立;不論在哪裡將坐下,都將安樂地坐下;不論在哪裡將躺下,都將安樂地躺下。」
  那時,那位比丘被世尊以這個教誡教誡,從座位起來、向世尊問訊作右繞後,離開。那時,住於單獨的、隱離的、不放逸的、熱心的、自我努力的那位比丘不久就以證智自作證後,在當生中進入後住於善男子們為了利益正確地從在家出家成為無家者的那個無上梵行結尾,他證知:「出生已盡梵行已完成應該被作的已作不再有此處[輪迴]的狀態。」然後那位比丘成為眾阿羅漢之一。
AN.8.63/ 3. Saṃkhittasuttaṃ
   63. Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami …pe… ekamantaṃ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṃ etadavoca– “sādhu me, bhante, bhagavā saṃkhittena dhammaṃ desetu, yamahaṃ bhagavato dhammaṃ sutvā eko vūpakaṭṭho appamatto ātāpī pahitatto vihareyyan”ti. “Evamevaṃ panidhekacce moghapurisā mamaññeva ajjhesanti. Dhamme ca bhāsite mamaññeva anubandhitabbaṃ maññantī”ti. “Desetu me, bhante, bhagavā saṃkhittena dhammaṃ, desetu sugato saṃkhittena dhammaṃ. Appeva nāmāhaṃ bhagavato bhāsitassa atthaṃ ājāneyyaṃ, appeva nāmāhaṃ bhagavato bhāsitassa dāyādo assan”ti. “Tasmātiha te, bhikkhu evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘ajjhattaṃ me cittaṃ ṭhitaṃ bhavissati susaṇṭhitaṃ, na ca uppannā pāpakā akusalā dhammā cittaṃ pariyādāya ṭhassantī’ti. Evañhi te, bhikkhu, sikkhitabbaṃ”.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ajjhattaṃ cittaṃ ṭhitaṃ hoti susaṇṭhitaṃ, na ca uppannā pāpakā akusalā dhammā cittaṃ pariyādāya tiṭṭhanti, tato te, bhikkhu, evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘mettā me cetovimutti bhāvitā bhavissati bahulīkatā yānīkatā vatthukatā anuṭṭhitā paricitā susamāraddhā’ti. Evañhi te, bhikkhu, sikkhitabbaṃ.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti bahulīkato, tato tvaṃ, bhikkhu, imaṃ samādhiṃ savitakkampi savicāraṃ bhāveyyāsi, avitakkampi vicāramattaṃ bhāveyyāsi, avitakkampi avicāraṃ bhāveyyāsi, sappītikampi bhāveyyāsi, nippītikampi bhāveyyāsi, sātasahagatampi bhāveyyāsi, upekkhāsahagatampi bhāveyyāsi.
   “Yato kho, te bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti subhāvito, tato te, bhikkhu, evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘karuṇā me cetovimutti… muditā me cetovimutti… upekkhā me cetovimutti bhāvitā bhavissati bahulīkatā yānīkatā vatthukatā anuṭṭhitā paricitā susamāraddhā’ti. Evañhi te, bhikkhu, sikkhitabbaṃ.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti subhāvito, tato tvaṃ, bhikkhu, imaṃ samādhiṃ savitakkasavicārampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakkavicāramattampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakka-avicārampi bhāveyyāsi, sappītikampi bhāveyyāsi, nippītikampi bhāveyyāsi, sātasahagatampi bhāveyyāsi, upekkhāsahagatampi bhāveyyāsi.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti subhāvito, tato te, bhikkhu, evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘kāye kāyānupassī viharissāmi ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassan’ti. Evañhi te, bhikkhu, sikkhitabbaṃ.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti bahulīkato, tato tvaṃ, bhikkhu, imaṃ samādhiṃ savitakkasavicārampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakkavicāramattampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakka-avicārampi bhāveyyāsi, sappītikampi bhāveyyāsi, nippītikampi bhāveyyāsi, sātasahagatampi bhāveyyāsi upekkhāsahagatampi bhāveyyāsi.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti subhāvito, tato te, bhikkhu evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ– ‘vedanāsu vedanānupassī viharissāmi ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassan’ti; citte cittānupassī viharissāmi ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassan’ti; dhammesu dhammānupassī viharissāmi ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassan’ti. Evañhi te, bhikkhu, sikkhitabbaṃ.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti bahulīkato, tato tvaṃ, bhikkhu, imaṃ samādhiṃ savitakkasavicārampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakkavicāramattampi bhāveyyāsi, avitakka-avicārampi bhāveyyāsi, sappītikampi bhāveyyāsi, nippītikampi bhāveyyāsi, sātasahagatampi bhāveyyāsi, upekkhāsahagatampi bhāveyyāsi.
   “Yato kho te, bhikkhu, ayaṃ samādhi evaṃ bhāvito hoti subhāvito, tato tvaṃ, bhikkhu, yena yeneva gagghasi phāsuṃyeva gagghasi, yattha yattha ṭhassasi phāsuṃyeva ṭhassasi, yattha yattha nisīdissasi phāsuṃyeva nisīdissasi, yattha yattha seyyaṃ kappessasi phāsuṃyeva seyyaṃ kappessasī”ti.
   Atha kho so bhikkhu bhagavatā iminā ovādena ovadito uṭṭhāyāsanā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṃ katvā pakkāmi. Atha kho so bhikkhu eko vūpakaṭṭho appamatto ātāpī pahitatto viharanto nacirasseva– yassatthāya kulaputtā sammadeva agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajanti, tadanuttaraṃ– brahmacariyapariyosānaṃ diṭṭheva dhamme sayaṃ abhiññā sacchikatvā upasampajja vihāsi. “Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṃ brahmacariyaṃ, kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ, nāparaṃ itthattāyā”ti abbhaññāsi. Aññataro ca pana so bhikkhu arahataṃ ahosīti. Tatiyaṃ.

  「有尋有伺……平靜俱行」(savitakkampi savicāraṃ(savitakkasavicārampi)……upekkhāsahagatampi),指初禪到第四禪,加入阿毘達磨時代出現的其間中間定,參看MN.128。
