比丘們!當沒有
慚與
愧時,對慚與愧壞失者來說,根的
自制失去近因;當沒有根的自制時,對根的自制壞失者來說,戒失去近因;當沒有戒時,對戒壞失者來說,正定失去近因;當沒有正定時,對正定壞失者來說,如實
智見失去近因;當沒有如實智見時,對如實智見壞失者來說,
厭與
離貪失去近因;當沒有厭與離貪時,對厭與離貪壞失者來說,
解脫智見失去近因。
比丘們!猶如有樹木枝葉壞失,其
外皮既不來到圓滿,內皮也……膚材也……心材也不來到圓滿。同樣的,比丘們!當沒有慚與愧時,對慚與愧壞失者來說,根的自制失去近因;當沒有根的自制時,對根的自制壞失者來說,戒失去近因;當沒有戒時,對戒壞失者來說,正定失去近因;當沒有正定時,對正定壞失者來說,如實智見失去近因;當沒有如實智見時,對如實智見壞失者來說,厭與離貪失去近因;當沒有厭與離貪時,對厭與離貪壞失者來說,解脫智見失去近因。
比丘們!當有慚與愧時,對慚與愧具足者來說,根的自制具足近因;當有根的自制時,對根的自制具足者來說,戒具足近因;當有戒時,對戒具足者來說,正定具足近因;當有正定時,對正定具足者來說,如實智見具足近因;當有如實智見時,對如實智見具足者來說,厭與離貪具足近因;當有厭與離貪時,對厭與離貪具足者來說,解脫智見具足近因。
比丘們!猶如有樹木枝葉具足,其外皮既來到圓滿,內皮也……膚材也……心材也來到圓滿。同樣的,比丘們!當有慚與愧時,對慚與愧具足者來說,根的自制具足近因……(中略)解脫智見具足近因。」

65. “Hirottappe bhikkhave, asati hirottappavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti indriyasaṃvaro; indriyasaṃvare asati indriyasaṃvaravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti sīlaṃ; sīle asati sīlavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti sammāsamādhi; sammāsamādhimhi asati sammāsamādhivipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti yathābhūtañāṇadassanaṃ; yathābhūtañāṇadassane asati yathābhūtañāṇadassanavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti nibbidāvirāgo; nibbidāvirāge asati nibbidāvirāgavipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ. Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, rukkho sākhāpalāsavipanno. Tassa papaṭikāpi na pāripūriṃ gacchati, tacopi pheggupi sāropi na pāripūriṃ gacchati. Evamevaṃ kho, bhikkhave, hirottappe asati hirottappavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti indriyasaṃvaro; indriyasaṃvare asati indriyasaṃvaravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti sīlaṃ; sīle asati sīlavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti sammāsamādhi; sammāsamādhimhi asati sammāsamādhivipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti yathābhūtañāṇadassanaṃ; yathābhūtañāṇadassane asati yathābhūtañāṇadassanavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti nibbidāvirāgo; nibbidāvirāge asati nibbidāvirāgavipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ.
