比丘們!在沒有根的
自制時,對根的自制壞失者,戒是
近因被破壞的;在沒有戒時,對戒壞失者,正定是近因被破壞的;在沒有正定時,對正定壞失者,如實
智見是近因被破壞的;在沒有如實智見時,對如實智見壞失者,
厭、
離貪是近因被破壞的;在沒有厭、離貪時,對厭與離貪壞失者,
解脫智見是近因被破壞的。比丘們!猶如枝葉壞失的樹木,它的
外皮既不來到完整,內皮也不來到完整,膚材也不來到完整,心材也不來到完整。同樣的,比丘們!在沒有根的自制時,對根的自制壞失者,戒失去近因……(中略)解脫智見失去近因。
比丘們!在有根的自制時,對根的自制具足者,戒是近因具足的;在有戒時,對戒具足者,正定是近因具足的;在有正定時,對正定具足者,如實智見是近因具足的;在有如實智見時,對如實智見具足者,厭、離貪是近因具足的;在有厭、離貪時,對厭與離貪具足者,解脫智見是近因具足的。比丘們!猶如枝葉具足的樹木,它的外皮既來到完整,內皮也來到完整,膚材也來到完整,心材也來到完整。同樣的,比丘們!當有根的自制時,對根的自制具足者,戒具足近因……(中略)解脫智見是近因具足的。」[≃AN.5.24]

50. “Indriyasaṃvare bhikkhave, asati indriyasaṃvaravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti sīlaṃ; sīle asati sīlavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti sammāsamādhi; sammāsamādhimhi asati sammāsamādhivipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti yathābhūtañāṇadassanaṃ; yathābhūtañāṇadassane asati yathābhūtañāṇadassanavipannassa hatūpaniso hoti nibbidāvirāgo; nibbidāvirāge asati nibbidāvirāgavipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ. Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, rukkho sākhāpalāsavipanno. Tassa papaṭikāpi na pāripūriṃ gacchati, tacopi na pāripūriṃ gacchati, pheggupi na pāripūriṃ gacchati, sāropi na pāripūriṃ gacchati. Evamevaṃ kho, bhikkhave, indriyasaṃvare asati indriyasaṃvaravipannassa hatūpanisaṃ hoti sīlaṃ …pe… vimuttiñāṇadassanaṃ.
