  「比丘們!我將教導你們住於放逸與住於不放逸,你們要聽
  而,比丘們!什麼是住於放逸?
  比丘們!如果眼根住於不防護者,則在能被眼所識的色上心墮落;如果那心已墮落,則無欣悅;當無欣悅時,則無;當無喜時,則無寧靜;當無寧靜時,則有苦;心苦者,則不入定;當心不得定時,則法不顯現;因為法的不顯現,這樣就以住於放逸為名。
  ……(中略)比丘們!如果舌根住於不防護者,則在能被舌所識的味道上心墮落;……(中略)這樣就以住於放逸為名。……(中略)比丘們!如果意根住於不防護者,則在能被意所識的法上心墮落;如果那心已墮落,則無欣悅;當無欣悅時,則無喜;當無喜時,則無寧靜;當無寧靜時,則有苦;心苦者,則不入定;當心不得定時,則法不顯現;因為法的不顯現,這樣就以住於放逸為名。比丘們!這樣是住於放逸。
  而,比丘們!什麼是住於不放逸?

   97. “Pamādavihāriñca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi appamādavihāriñca. Taṃ suṇātha. Kathañca, bhikkhave, pamādavihārī hoti? Cakkhundriyaṃ asaṃvutassa, bhikkhave, viharato cittaṃ byāsiñcati. Cakkhuviññeyyesu rūpesu tassa byāsittacittassa pāmojjaṃ na hoti. Pāmojje asati pīti na hoti. Pītiyā asati passaddhi na hoti. Passaddhiyā asati dukkhaṃ hoti. Dukkhino cittaṃ na samādhiyati. Asamāhite citte dhammā na pātubhavanti. 漢巴經文比對(莊春江作):
  「法顯現」(dhammā pātubhavanti),菩提比丘長老英譯為「事象成為明白的」(phenomena become manifest)。按:《顯揚真義》以止觀法(samathavipassanādhammā)解說這裡的法,但長老認為是內外處(法)顯出無常、苦、非我,如SN.35.99所說。
