  「比丘們!有因緣生起欲尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起惡意尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起加害尋,非無因緣。而,比丘們!怎樣有因緣生起欲尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起惡意尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起加害尋,非無因緣呢?
  比丘們!欲界生起欲想;緣欲想生起欲的意向;緣欲的意向生起欲的意欲;緣欲的意欲生起欲的熱惱;緣欲的熱惱生起欲的遍求,比丘們!當遍求欲的遍求時,未受教導的一般人以三處錯誤地行動:以身、語、意。
  比丘們!緣惡意界生起惡意想;緣惡意想生起惡意的意向;……(中略)惡意的意欲……惡意的焦熱……惡意的遍求,比丘們!當遍求惡意的遍求時,未受教導的一般人以三處錯誤地行動:以身、語、意。
  比丘們!緣加害界生起加害想;緣加害想生起加害的意向;……(中略)加害的意欲……加害的焦熱……加害的遍求,比丘們!當遍求加害的遍求時,未受教導的一般人以三處錯誤地行動:以身、語、意。
  比丘們!猶如男子如果掉落燃燒的草炬到乾草中,如果不以手、腳急速地熄滅,比丘們!這樣,那些依止草木的生物類,牠們會遭到不幸與災厄。同樣的,比丘們!凡當任何沙門婆羅門已生起不正之想時,不急速地捨斷、驅離、剷除、使之走到不存在者,則他當生住於苦,有惱害,有絕望,有熱惱;身體崩解,死後向於惡趣應該可以被預期。
  比丘們!有因緣生起離欲尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起無惡意尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起不加害尋,非無因緣。而,比丘們!怎樣有因緣生起離欲尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起無惡意尋,非無因緣;有因緣生起不加害尋,非無因緣呢?
  比丘們!緣離欲界生起離欲想;緣離欲想生起離欲的意向;緣離欲的意向生起離欲的意欲;緣離欲的意欲生起離欲的熱惱;緣離欲的熱惱生起離欲的遍求,比丘們!當遍求離欲的遍求時,已受教導的聖弟子以三處正確地行動:以身、語、意。
  比丘們!緣無惡意界生起無惡意想;緣無惡意想生起無惡意的意向;……(中略)無惡意的意欲……無惡意的焦熱……無惡意的遍求,比丘們!當遍求無惡意的遍求時,已受教導的聖弟子以三處正確地行動:以身、語、意。
  比丘們!緣無加害界生起無加害想;緣無加害想生起無加害的意向;……(中略)無加害的意欲……無加害的焦熱……無加害的遍求,比丘們!當遍求不加害的遍求時,已受教導的聖弟子以三處正確地行動:以身、語、意。

   96. Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati …pe… “sanidānaṃ, bhikkhave, uppajjati kāmavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati byāpādavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati vihiṃsāvitakko, no anidānaṃ”.
   “Kathañca, bhikkhave, sanidānaṃ uppajjati kāmavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati byāpādavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati vihiṃsāvitakko, no anidānaṃ? Kāmadhātuṃ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati kāmasaññā, kāmasaññaṃ paṭicca uppajjati kāmasaṅkappo, kāmasaṅkappaṃ paṭicca uppajjati kāmacchando, kāmacchandaṃ paṭicca uppajjati kāmapariḷāho, kāmapariḷāhaṃ paṭicca uppajjati kāmapariyesanā. Kāmapariyesanaṃ, bhikkhave, pariyesamāno assutavā puthujjano tīhi ṭhānehi micchā paṭipajjati– kāyena, vācāya, manasā.
   “Byāpādadhātuṃ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati byāpādasaññā, byāpādasaññaṃ paṭicca uppajjati byāpādasaṅkappo …pe… byāpādacchando… byāpādapariḷāho… byāpādapariyesanā… byāpādapariyesanaṃ, bhikkhave, pariyesamāno assutavā puthujjano tīhi ṭhānehi micchā paṭipajjati – kāyena, vācāya, manasā.
   “Vihiṃsādhātuṃ bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati vihiṃsāsaññā; vihiṃsāsaññaṃ paṭicca uppajjati vihiṃsāsaṅkappo …pe… vihiṃsāchando… vihiṃsāpariḷāho… vihiṃsāpariyesanā… vihiṃsāpariyesanaṃ, bhikkhave pariyesamāno assutavā puthujjano tīhi ṭhānehi micchā paṭipajjati– kāyena, vācāya, manasā.
   “Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, puriso ādittaṃ tiṇukkaṃ sukkhe tiṇadāye nikkhipeyya; no ce hatthehi ca pādehi ca khippameva nibbāpeyya. Evañhi, bhikkhave, ye tiṇakaṭṭhanissitā pāṇā te anayabyasanaṃ āpajjeyyuṃ. Evameva kho, bhikkhave, yo hi koci samaṇo vā brāhmaṇo vā uppannaṃ visamagataṃ saññaṃ na khippameva pajahati vinodeti byantīkaroti anabhāvaṃ gameti, so diṭṭhe ceva dhamme dukkhaṃ viharati savighātaṃ sa-upāyāsaṃ sapariḷāhaṃ; kāyassa ca bhedā paraṃ maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā.
   “Sanidānaṃ, bhikkhave, uppajjati nekkhammavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati abyāpādavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati avihiṃsāvitakko, no anidānaṃ.
   “Kathañca, bhikkhave, sanidānaṃ uppajjati nekkhammavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati abyāpādavitakko, no anidānaṃ; sanidānaṃ uppajjati avihiṃsāvitakko, no anidānaṃ?    “Abyāpādadhātuṃ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati abyāpādasaññā, abyāpādasaññaṃ paṭicca uppajjati abyāpādasaṅkappo …pe… abyāpādacchando… abyāpādapariḷāho… abyāpādapariyesanā, abyāpādapariyesanaṃ, bhikkhave, pariyesamāno sutavā ariyasāvako tīhi ṭhānehi sammā paṭipajjati– kāyena, vācāya, manasā.
   “Avihiṃsādhātuṃ bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati avihiṃsāsaññā avihiṃsāsaññaṃ paṭicca uppajjati avihiṃsāsaṅkappo, avihiṃsāsaṅkappaṃ paṭicca uppajjati avihiṃsāchando, avihiṃsāchandaṃ paṭicca uppajjati avihiṃsāpariḷāho, avihiṃsāpariḷāhaṃ paṭicca uppajjati avihiṃsāpariyesanā; avihiṃsāpariyesanaṃ, bhikkhave, pariyesamāno sutavā ariyasāvako tīhi ṭhānehi sammā paṭipajjati– kāyena, vācāya, manasā.

漢巴經文比對(莊春江作):
  「緣出要界(SA.458)」,南傳作「緣離欲界」(Nekkhammadhātuṃ……paṭicca),菩提比丘長老英譯為「依於放棄元素」(In dependence on the renunciation element)。按:「離欲」(nekkhamma),另譯為「出離」,《顯揚真義》說,這裡,離欲界為離欲尋及一切善法(ettha nekkhammavitakkopi nekkhammadhātu sabbepi kusalā dhammā)。
