  「比丘們!當在會被執取的法上住於觀察樂味時,則渴愛增長;以渴愛為緣而有取,以取為緣而有有,以有為緣而有生,以生為緣而有老、死、愁、悲、苦、憂、絕望生起,這樣是這整個苦蘊
  比丘們!猶如能使十車柴、二十車柴、三十車柴、四十車柴燃燒的大火聚,在那裡,男子能經常投入乾草、乾牛糞、乾木柴,比丘們!這樣,有那食物、那燃料,那大火聚就能長久地燃燒。同樣的,比丘們!當在會被執取的法上住於觀察樂味時,則渴愛增長;以渴愛為緣而有取,……(中略)這樣是這整個苦蘊
  比丘們!當在會被執取的法上住於觀察過患時,則渴愛被滅;以渴愛滅而取滅,以取滅而有滅,以有滅而生滅,以生滅而老、死、愁、悲、苦、憂、絕望滅,這樣是這整個苦蘊的滅。
  比丘們!猶如能使十車柴、二十車柴、三十車柴、四十車柴燃燒的大火聚,在那裡,男子不能經常投入乾草、乾牛糞、乾木柴,比丘們!這樣,當先前的燃料耗盡了,其它的[燃料]又不帶來,無食物,那大火聚就會熄滅了。同樣的,比丘們!當在會被執取的法上住於觀察過患時,則渴愛滅;以渴愛滅而取滅,……(中略)這樣是這整個苦蘊的滅。」
SN.12.52/(2). Upādānasuttaṃ
   52. Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati …pe… “upādāniyesu, bhikkhave, dhammesu assādānupassino viharato taṇhā pavaḍḍhati. Taṇhāpaccayā upādānaṃ; upādānapaccayā bhavo; bhavapaccayā jāti; jātipaccayā jarāmaraṇaṃ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsā sambhavanti. Evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa samudayo hoti”.
   “Seyyathāpi bhikkhave, dasannaṃ vā kaṭṭhavāhānaṃ vīsāya vā kaṭṭhavāhānaṃ tiṃsāya vā kaṭṭhavāhānaṃ cattārīsāya vā kaṭṭhavāhānaṃ mahā-aggikkhandho jaleyya. Tatra puriso kālena kālaṃ sukkhāni ceva tiṇāni pakkhipeyya, sukkhāni ca gomayāni pakkhipeyya, sukkhāni ca kaṭṭhāni pakkhipeyya. Evañhi so, bhikkhave, mahā-aggikkhandho tadāhāro tadupādāno ciraṃ dīghamaddhānaṃ jaleyya. Evameva kho, bhikkhave, upādāniyesu dhammesu assādānupassino viharato taṇhā pavaḍḍhati. Taṇhāpaccayā upādānaṃ …pe… evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa samudayo hoti.
   “Upādāniyesu, bhikkhave, dhammesu ādīnavānupassino viharato taṇhā nirujjhati. Taṇhānirodhā upādānanirodho; upādānanirodhā bhavanirodho; bhava-nirodhā jātinirodho; jātinirodhā jarāmaraṇaṃ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsā nirujjhanti. Evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hoti.
