中部133經/摩訶迦旃延賢善一夜者經(分別品[14])(莊春江譯)
  我聽到這樣
  有一次世尊住在王舍城溫泉園。
  那時,尊者三彌提在破曉時起來後,前往溫泉洗澡。在溫泉洗澡後起來,然後著單衣站著弄乾身體。那時,當夜已深時,容色絕佳的某位天神使整個溫泉園發光後,去見尊者三彌提。抵達後,在一旁站立。在一旁站好後,那位天神對尊者三彌提這麼說:
  「比丘!你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別嗎?」
  「朋友!我不憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,但,朋友!你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別嗎?」
  「比丘!我也不憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,但,比丘!你憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌嗎?」
  「朋友!我不憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌,但,朋友!你憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌嗎?」
  「比丘!我也不憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌,但,比丘!請你學習賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!請你學得賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!請你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!賢善一夜者的總說與分別是具有利益的,是梵行的基礎。」
  這就是那位天神所說,說了這個後,就在那裡消失了。(279)
  那時,那夜過後,尊者三彌提去見世尊。抵達後,向世尊問訊,接著在一旁坐下。在一旁坐好後,尊者三彌提對世尊這麼說:
  「大德!這裡,我在破曉時起來後,前往溫泉洗澡。在溫泉洗澡後起來,然後著單衣站著弄乾身體。那時,當夜已深時,容色絕佳的某位天神使整個溫泉園發光後,來見我。抵達後,在一旁站立。在一旁站好後,那位天神對我這麼說:『比丘!你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別嗎?』大德!當這麼說時,我對那位天神這麼說:『朋友!我不憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,但,朋友!你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別嗎?』『比丘!我也不憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,但,比丘!你憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌嗎?』『朋友!我不憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌,但,朋友!你憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌嗎?』『比丘!我也不憶持賢善一夜者的偈頌,但,比丘!請你學習賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!請你學得賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!請你憶持賢善一夜者的總說與分別,比丘!賢善一夜者的總說與分別是具有利益的,是梵行的基礎。』大德!這就是那位天神所說,說了這個後,就在那裡消失了。大德!請世尊教導我賢善一夜者的總說與分別,那就好了!」
  「那樣的話,比丘!你要聽!你要好好作意!我要說了。」
  「是的,大德!」尊者三彌提回答世尊。
  世尊這麼說:
  「應該不隨過去的而行,應該不期待未來的,
   凡過去的已被捨,未來的未到達。
   凡現在已生起的法,處處
   不能被征服、不能被動搖,智者應該使之增強
   只有今天應該作的努力,誰能知明天[是否]死亡?
   因為與死神大軍,確實沒有契約。
   這樣熱心的住者,日夜不懈怠地,
   寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是『賢善一夜者』。」
  這就是世尊所說,說了這個後,善逝就起座進入住處。
  那時,當世尊離去不久,那些比丘這麼想:
  「學友們!這裡,世尊為我們簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:『應該不隨過去的而行,應該不期待未來的,凡過去的已被捨,未來的未到達。凡現在已生起的法,處處觀,不能被征服、不能被動搖,智者應該使之增強。只有今天應該作的努力,誰能知明天[是否]死亡?因為與死神大軍,確實沒有契約。這樣熱心的住者,日夜不懈怠地,寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是「賢善一夜者」。』誰能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理呢?」
  那時,那些比丘這麼想:
  「這位尊者摩訶迦旃延,為大師所稱讚,同梵行智者所尊重,尊者摩訶迦旃延能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理。讓我們去見尊者摩訶迦旃延。抵達後,問尊者摩訶迦旃延這個義理。」(280)
  那時,那些比丘去見尊者摩訶迦旃延。抵達後,與尊者摩訶迦旃延相互歡迎。歡迎與寒暄後,在一旁坐下。在一旁坐好後,那些比丘對尊者摩訶迦旃延這麼說:
  「迦旃延學友!這裡,世尊為我們簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:『應該不隨過去的而行,應該不期待未來的,凡過去的已被捨,未來的未到達。凡現在已生起的法,處處觀,不能被征服、不能被動搖,智者應該使之增強。只有今天應該作的努力,誰能知明天[是否]死亡?因為與死神大軍,確實沒有契約。這樣熱心的住者,日夜不懈怠地,寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是「賢善一夜者」。』迦旃延學友!當世尊離去不久,我們這麼想:『學友們!這裡,世尊為我們簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:「應該不隨過去的而行,……(中略)寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是『賢善一夜者』。」誰能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理呢?』迦旃延學友!我們這麼想:『這位尊者摩訶迦旃延為大師所稱讚,同梵行智者所尊重,尊者摩訶迦旃延能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理。讓我們去見尊者摩訶迦旃延。抵達後,問尊者摩訶迦旃延這個義理。』願尊者摩訶迦旃延解說吧!」
  「學友們!猶如男子欲求心材,找尋心材,遍求心材,當走到有心材住立的大樹時,就越過根,越過樹幹後,想在枝葉中遍求心材,尊者們就像這樣,在大師面前略過世尊後,你們想應該在我這裡問這個義理。因為,學友們!那位世尊是知者、見者,他知道、看見;是眼已生者智已生者法已生者梵已生者;為解說者、推動者、義理的闡示者、不死的施與者、法主如來。而那正是你們應該對世尊問這個義理的時機,你們應該依世尊的解說憶持。」
  「迦旃延學友!那位世尊確實是知者、見者,他知道、看見;是眼已生者、智已生者、法已生者、梵已生者;為解說者、推動者、義理的闡示者、不死的施與者、法王、如來,而那正是我們應該對世尊問這個義理的時機,我們應該依世尊的解說憶持。但,尊者摩訶迦旃延為大師所稱讚,同梵行智者所尊重,尊者摩訶迦旃延能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理,願尊者摩訶迦旃延不辭麻煩地解說吧!」
  「那樣的話,學友們!請你們聽!請你們好好作意!我要說了。」
  「是的,學友!」那些比丘們回答尊者摩訶迦旃延。
  尊者摩訶迦旃延這麼說:
  「學友們!世尊簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:『應該不隨過去的而行,……(中略)寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是「賢善一夜者」。』學友們!我詳細了知這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理:(281)
  學友們!怎樣是『隨過去的而行』呢?『我的眼過去時是像那樣的,色是像那樣的。』在那裡,識被欲貪束縛;當識被欲貪束縛時,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則隨過去的而行。『我的耳過去時是像那樣的,聲音是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的鼻過去時是像那樣的,氣味是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的舌過去時是像那樣的,味道是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的身過去時是像那樣的,所觸是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的意過去時是像那樣的,法是像那樣的。』在那裡,識被欲貪束縛;當識被欲貪束縛時,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則隨過去的而行。
  學友們!怎樣是『不隨過去的而行』呢?『我的眼過去時是像那樣的,色是像那樣的。』在那裡,識不被欲貪束縛;當識不被欲貪束縛時,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則不隨過去的而行。『我的耳過去時是像那樣的,聲音是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的鼻過去時是像那樣的,氣味是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的舌過去時是像那樣的,味道是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的身過去時是像那樣的,所觸是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的意過去時是像那樣的,法是像那樣的。』在那裡,識不被欲貪束縛;當識不被欲貪束縛時,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則不隨過去的而行。(282)
  學友們!怎樣是『期待未來的』呢?『我的眼未來時會是像那樣的,色會是像那樣的。』對未獲得的獲得心寄望緣於心的寄望,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則期待未來的。『我的耳未來時會是像那樣的,聲音會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的鼻未來時會是像那樣的,氣味會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的舌未來時會是像那樣的,味道會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的身未來時會是像那樣的,所觸會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的意未來時會是像那樣的,法會是像那樣的。』對未獲得的獲得心寄望,緣於心的寄望,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則期待未來的。
  學友們!怎樣是『不期待未來的』呢?『我的眼未來時會是像那樣的,色會是像那樣的。』對未獲得的獲得心不寄望,緣於心的無寄望,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則不期待未來的。『我的耳未來時會是像那樣的,聲音會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的鼻未來時會是像那樣的,氣味會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的舌未來時會是像那樣的,味道會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的身未來時會是像那樣的,所觸會是像那樣的。』……(中略)『我的意未來時會是像那樣的,法會是像那樣的。』對未獲得的獲得心不寄望,緣於心的無寄望,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則不期待未來的。(283)
  學友們!怎樣是『在現在已生起的法上被征服』呢?學友們!凡現在已生起的眼與色這兩者,識在那現在已生起的[法]上被欲貪束縛;當識被欲貪束縛時,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則在現在已生起的法上被征服。凡耳與聲音……(中略)凡鼻與氣味……(中略)凡舌與味道……(中略)凡身與所觸……(中略)凡現在已生起的意與法這兩者,識在那現在已生起的[法]上被欲貪束縛;當識被欲貪束縛時,則歡喜它;當歡喜它時,則在現在已生起的法上被征服。
  學友們!怎樣是『在現在已生起的法上不被征服』呢?學友們!凡現在已生起的眼與色這兩者,識在那現在已生起的[法]上不被欲貪束縛;當識不被欲貪束縛時,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則在現在已生起的法上不被征服。凡耳與聲音……(中略)凡鼻與氣味……(中略)凡舌與味道……(中略)凡身與所觸……(中略)凡現在已生起的意與法這兩者,識在那現在已生起的[法]上不被欲貪束縛;當識不被欲貪束縛時,則不歡喜它;當不歡喜它時,則在現在已生起的法上不被征服。(284)
  學友們!凡世尊簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:『應該不隨過去的而行,……(中略)寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是「賢善一夜者」。』我這樣詳細了知這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理。而,尊者們!如果你們希望,請你們去見世尊。抵達後,可以問這個義理,你們應該依據世尊的解說憶持。」
  那時,那些比丘歡喜、隨喜尊者摩訶迦旃延所說後,起座去見世尊。抵達後,向世尊問訊,接著在一旁坐下。在一旁坐好後,那些比丘對世尊這麼說:
  「大德!世尊為我們簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:『應該不隨過去的而行,……(中略)寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是「賢善一夜者」。』大德!當世尊離去不久,我們這麼想:『學友們!這裡,世尊為我們簡要地誦說這總說,未解析義理後,就起座進入住處:「應該不隨過去的而行,應該不期待未來的,凡過去的已被捨,未來的未到達。凡現在已生起的法,處處觀,不能被征服、不能被動搖,智者應該使之增強。只有今天應該作的努力,誰能知明天[是否]死亡?因為與死神大軍,確實沒有契約。這樣熱心的住者,日夜不懈怠地,寂靜的牟尼說:他確實是『賢善一夜者』。」誰能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理呢?』大德!我們這麼想:『這位尊者摩訶迦旃延為大師所稱讚,同梵行智者所尊重,尊者摩訶迦旃延能詳細解說這世尊簡要誦說的總說;未解析的義理,讓我們去見尊者摩訶迦旃延。抵達後,問尊者摩訶迦旃延這個義理。』大德!那時,我們去見尊者摩訶迦旃延。抵達後,問尊者摩訶迦旃延這個義理。大德!尊者摩訶迦旃延以這些理由、這些語詞、這些文句為我們解說這個義理。」
  「比丘們!摩訶迦旃延是賢智者;比丘們!摩訶迦旃延是大慧者。比丘們!如果你們問我這個義理,我也會如摩訶迦旃延這樣的解說來解說,這就是這個義理,你們應該這樣憶持它。」
  這就是世尊所說,那些悅意的比丘歡喜世尊所說。(285)

MN.133/(3) Mahākaccānabhaddekarattasuttaṃ
   279. Evaṃ me sutaṃ– ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā rājagahe viharati tapodārāme. Atha kho āyasmā samiddhi rattiyā paccūsasamayaṃ paccuṭṭhāya yena tapodo tenupasaṅkami gattāni parisiñcituṃ. Tapode gattāni parisiñcitvā paccuttaritvā ekacīvaro aṭṭhāsi gattāni pubbāpayamāno. Atha kho aññatarā devatā abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaṇṇā kevalakappaṃ tapodaṃ obhāsetvā yenāyasmā samiddhi tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā ekamantaṃ aṭṭhāsi. Ekamantaṃ ṭhitā kho sā devatā āyasmantaṃ samiddhiṃ etadavoca– “dhāresi tvaṃ, bhikkhu, bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañcā”ti? “Na kho ahaṃ, āvuso, dhāremi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañca. Tvaṃ panāvuso, dhāresi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañcā”ti? “Ahampi kho, bhikkhu, na dhāremi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañca.    280. Atha kho āyasmā samiddhi tassā rattiyā accayena yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho āyasmā samiddhi bhagavantaṃ etadavoca–
   “Idhāhaṃ, bhante, rattiyā paccūsasamayaṃ paccuṭṭhāya yena tapodo tenupasaṅkamiṃ gattāni parisiñcituṃ. Tapode gattāni parisiñcitvā paccuttaritvā ekacīvaro aṭṭhāsiṃ gattāni pubbāpayamāno.    “Evaṃ vutte ahaṃ, bhante, taṃ devataṃ etadavocaṃ– ‘na kho ahaṃ, āvuso, dhāremi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañca. Tvaṃ panāvuso, dhāresi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañcā’ti? ‘Ahampi kho, bhikkhu, na dhāremi bhaddekarattassa uddesañca vibhaṅgañca. Dhāresi pana tvaṃ, bhikkhu, bhaddekarattiyo gāthā’ti? ‘Na kho ahaṃ, āvuso, dhāremi bhaddekarattiyo gāthāti. Tvaṃ panāvuso, dhāresi bhaddekarattiyo gāthā’ti? ‘Ahampi kho, bhikkhu, na dhāremi bhaddekarattiyo gāthāti. Bhagavā etadavoca–
   “Atītaṃ nānvāgameyya, nappaṭikaṅkhe anāgataṃ;
   Yadatītaṃ pahīnaṃ taṃ, appattañca anāgataṃ.
   “Paccuppannañca yo dhammaṃ, tattha tattha vipassati;
   Asaṃhīraṃ asaṃkuppaṃ, taṃ vidvā manubrūhaye.
   “Ajjeva kiccamātappaṃ, ko jaññā maraṇaṃ suve;
   Na hi no saṅgaraṃ tena, mahāsenena maccunā.
   “Evaṃ vihāriṃ ātāpiṃ, ahorattamatanditaṃ;
   Taṃ ve bhaddekarattoti, santo ācikkhate munī”ti.
   Idamavoca bhagavā; idaṃ vatvāna sugato uṭṭhāyāsanā vihāraṃ pāvisi. Atha kho tesaṃ bhikkhūnaṃ acirapakkantassa bhagavato, etadahosi– “idaṃ kho no, āvuso, bhagavā saṃkhittena uddesaṃ uddisitvā vitthārena atthaṃ avibhajitvā uṭṭhāyāsanā vihāraṃ paviṭṭho –
   “Atītaṃ nānvāgameyya, nappaṭikaṅkhe anāgataṃ;
   Yadatītaṃ pahīnaṃ taṃ, appattañca anāgataṃ.
   “Paccuppannañca yo dhammaṃ, tattha tattha vipassati;
   Asaṃhīraṃ asaṃkuppaṃ, taṃ vidvā manubrūhaye.

   Atha kho tesaṃ bhikkhūnaṃ etadahosi– “ayaṃ kho āyasmā mahākaccāno satthu ceva saṃvaṇṇito sambhāvito ca viññūnaṃ sabrahmacārīnaṃ; pahoti cāyasmā mahākaccāno imassa bhagavatā saṃkhittena uddesassa uddiṭṭhassa vitthārena atthaṃ avibhattassa vitthārena atthaṃ vibhajituṃ. Yaṃnūna mayaṃ yenāyasmā mahākaccāno tenupasaṅkameyyāma; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ mahākaccānaṃ etamatthaṃ paṭipuccheyyāmā”ti.
   281. Atha kho te bhikkhū yenāyasmā mahākaccāno tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmatā mahākaccānena saddhiṃ sammodiṃsu. Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Ekamantaṃ nisinnā kho te bhikkhū āyasmantaṃ mahākaccānaṃ etadavocuṃ “idaṃ kho no, āvuso kaccāna, bhagavā saṃkhittena uddesaṃ uddisitvā vitthārena atthaṃ avibhajitvā uṭṭhāyāsanā vihāraṃ paviṭṭho–
   “Atītaṃ nānvāgameyya …pe…
   Taṃ ve bhaddekarattoti, santo ācikkhate munī”ti.
   “Tesaṃ no, āvuso kaccāna, amhākaṃ, acirapakkantassa bhagavato, etadahosi– idaṃ kho no, āvuso, bhagavā saṃkhittena uddesaṃ uddisitvā vitthārena atthaṃ avibhajitvā uṭṭhāyāsanā vihāraṃ paviṭṭho–
   “Atītaṃ nānvāgameyya …pe…
   Taṃ ve bhaddekarattoti, santo ācikkhate munī”ti.
   “Ko nu kho imassa bhagavatā saṃkhittena uddesassa uddiṭṭhassa vitthārena atthaṃ avibhattassa vitthārena atthaṃ vibhajeyyāti? Tesaṃ no āvuso kaccāna, amhākaṃ etadahosi– ‘ayaṃ kho āyasmā mahākaccāno satthu ceva saṃvaṇṇito sambhāvito ca viññūnaṃ sabrahmacārīnaṃ. Pahoti cāyasmā mahākaccāno imassa bhagavatā saṃkhittena uddesassa uddiṭṭhassa vitthārena atthaṃ avibhattassa vitthārena atthaṃ vibhajituṃ. Yaṃnūna mayaṃ yenāyasmā mahākaccāno tenupasaṅkameyyāma; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ mahākaccānaṃ etamatthaṃ paṭipuccheyyāmā’ti. Vibhajatāyasmā mahākaccāno”ti.
   “Seyyathāpi, āvuso, puriso sāratthiko sāragavesī sārapariyesanaṃ caramāno mahato rukkhassa tiṭṭhato sāravato atikkammeva mūlaṃ atikkamma khandhaṃ sākhāpalāse sāraṃ pariyesitabbaṃ maññeyya; evaṃ sampadamidaṃ āyasmantānaṃ satthari sammukhībhūte taṃ bhagavantaṃ atisitvā amhe etamatthaṃ paṭipucchitabbaṃ maññatha. So hāvuso, bhagavā jānaṃ jānāti, passaṃ passati, cakkhubhūto ñāṇabhūto dhammabhūto brahmabhūto vattā pavattā atthassa ninnetā amatassa dātā dhammassāmī tathāgato. So ceva panetassa kālo ahosi yaṃ bhagavantaṃyeva etamatthaṃ paṭipuccheyyātha, yathā vo bhagavā byākareyya tathā naṃ dhāreyyāthā”ti.
