  我聽到這樣
  有一次世尊住在舍衛城祇樹林給孤獨園。
  在那裡,世尊召喚比丘們:「比丘們!」
  「尊師!」那些比丘回答世尊。
  世尊這麼說:
  「比丘們!猶如兩間有門的家屋,在那裡,有眼的男子們站在中間能看見進、出,走動、探查家的人們。同樣的,比丘們!我以清淨、超越人的天眼,看見當眾生死時、往生時,在下劣、勝妙,美、醜,幸、不幸中,了知眾生依業流轉:『這些眾生諸君,具備身善行、語善行、意善行,不斥責聖者,正見與持正見之業行,他們以身體的崩解,死後往生到善趣、天界,或者這些眾生諸君,具備身善行、語善行、意善行,不斥責聖者,正見與持正見之業行,他們以身體的崩解,死後往生到人間。這些眾生諸君,具備身惡行、語惡行、意惡行,斥責聖者,邪見與持邪見之業行,他們以身體的崩解,死後往生到餓鬼界,或者這些眾生諸君,具備身惡行、語惡行、意惡行,斥責聖者,邪見與持邪見之業行,他們以身體的崩解,死後往生到畜生界,或者這些眾生諸君,具備身惡行、語惡行、意惡行,斥責聖者,邪見與持邪見之業行,他們以身體的崩解,死後往生到苦界、惡趣、下界、地獄,比丘們!獄卒們各捉住他一邊手臂後,給閻摩王看[而說]:『大王!這位男子是不孝順母親者、不孝順父親者、不尊敬沙門、不尊敬婆羅門、不尊敬家族中長輩者,請大王對這位判決處罰!』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第一位天使:『喂!男子!你沒見過第一位天使出現在人間嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!沒見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你在人間沒見過幼嫩愚鈍的嬰兒跌臥在自己的大小便中嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!有識、有念、老練的你不這麼想:「我也有生法,未跨越生,來吧!我要以身、語、意為善。」嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!我未能夠,大德!我放逸了。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你以放逸而不以身、語、意為善,喂!男子!他們確實將依[你]那放逸處置你。而你的那惡業既不是母親所作,也不是父親所作,也不是兄弟所作,也不是姊妹所作,也不是朋友同僚所作,也不是親族親屬所作,也不是沙門婆羅門所作,也不是諸天所作,而那惡業就是你所作,你將感受那果報。』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第一位天使後,審問、質問、追究他關於第二位天使:『喂!男子!你沒見過第二位天使出現在人間嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!沒見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你在人間沒見過年老的、像椽木那樣彎曲的、彎曲的、依靠拐杖、顫抖著而行、病苦、青春已逝、齒斷、髮白而稀或禿頭、皮皺、肢體斑濁的女子或男子嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!有識、有念、老練的你不這麼想:「我也有老法,未跨越老,來吧!我要以身、語、意為善。」嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!我未能夠,大德!我放逸了。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你以放逸而不以身、語、意為善,喂!男子!他們確實將依[你]那放逸處置你。而你的那惡業既不是母親所作,也不是父親所作,也不是兄弟所作,也不是姊妹所作,也不是朋友同僚所作,也不是親族親屬所作,也不是沙門婆羅門所作,也不是諸天所作,而那惡業就是你所作,你將感受那果報。』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第二位天使後,審問、質問、追究他關於第三位天使:『喂!男子!你沒見過第三位天使出現在人間嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!沒見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你在人間沒見過生病、痛苦、重病、跌臥在自己的糞尿中、被他人扶著起來、被他人扶著躺下的女子或男子嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!有識、有念、老練的你不這麼想:「我也有生病法,未跨越生病,來吧!我要以身、語、意為善。」嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!我未能夠,大德!我放逸了。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你以放逸而不以身、語、意為善,喂!男子!他們確實將依[你]那放逸處置你。而你的那惡業既不是母親所作,也不是父親所作,也不是兄弟所作,也不是姊妹所作,也不是朋友同僚所作,也不是親族親屬所作,也不是沙門婆羅門所作,也不是諸天所作,而那惡業就是你所作,你將感受那果報。』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第三位天使後,審問、質問、追究他關於第四位天使:『喂!男子!你沒見過第四位天使出現在人間嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!沒見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你在人間沒見過國王捕捉盜賊、罪犯後,會處以種種刑罰:會以鞭打、以棒打、以手杖打,會切斷手、腳、手與腳、耳、鼻、耳與鼻,會處以酸粥鍋刑、貝禿刑、羅侯口刑、火鬘刑、燭手刑、驅行刑、樹皮衣刑、羚羊刑、鉤肉刑、錢刑、鹼浴刑、扭轉門閂刑、稻草足踏台刑,淋熱油,令狗咬,活著令刺入,以刀劍砍頭嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!有識、有念、老練的你不這麼想:「先生!凡作惡業者,他們在當生中被處以種種刑罰,更何況在來世!來吧!我要以身、語、意為善。」嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!我未能夠,大德!我放逸了。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你以放逸而不以身、語、意為善,喂!男子!他們確實將依[你]那放逸處置你。而你的那惡業既不是母親所作,也不是父親所作,也不是兄弟所作,也不是姊妹所作,也不是朋友同僚所作,也不是親族親屬所作,也不是沙門婆羅門所作,也不是諸天所作,而那惡業就是你所作,你將感受那果報。』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第四位天使後,審問、質問、追究他關於第五位天使:『喂!男子!你沒見過第五位天使出現在人間嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!沒見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你在人間沒見過死了一天,死了兩天,死了三天,腫脹的、青瘀的、生爛膿的女子或男子嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!見過。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!有識、有念、老練的你不這麼想:「我也有死法,未跨越死,來吧!我要以身、語、意為善。」嗎?』他這麼說:『大德!我未能夠,大德!我放逸了。』
  比丘們!閻摩王對他這麼說:『喂!男子!你以放逸而不以身、語、意為善,喂!男子!他們確實將依[你]那放逸處置你。而你的那惡業既不是母親所作,也不是父親所作,也不是兄弟所作,也不是姊妹所作,也不是朋友同僚所作,也不是親族親屬所作,也不是沙門婆羅門所作,也不是諸天所作,而那惡業就是你所作,你將感受那果報。』
  比丘們!閻摩王審問、質問、追究他關於第五位天使後,他變得沈默了。比丘們!獄卒們對他作五種繫縛刑罰:他們使赤熱鐵棒穿過手掌,他們使赤熱鐵棒穿過第二隻手掌,他們使赤熱鐵棒穿過腳掌,他們使赤熱鐵棒穿過第二隻腳掌,他們使赤熱鐵棒在中間穿過胸部。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!獄卒們使他橫臥後,以斧頭削他,……(中略)。比丘們!獄卒們腳上頭下抓住他後,以小斧削他,……(中略)。比丘們!獄卒們將他套上軛於車上後,使他在點燃火,已燃燒的、輝耀的地上來回,……(中略)。比丘們!獄卒們使他在已燃燒的、輝耀的大炭火山爬上爬下,……(中略)。比丘們!獄卒們腳上頭下抓住他後,丟入已燃燒的、輝耀的赤熱銅釜中,他在那裡被起泡沫地煮著,他在那裡起泡沫地載沈載浮或走橫。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!獄卒們丟他入大地獄,而,比丘們!那大地獄:
  四個角落有四個門,被區分成等量部分,
  周邊為鐵壁,頂部被鐵覆蔽。
  其地是鐵製的,被火燃燒到發光,
  全部一百由旬,遍佈後一切時存續。
  又,比丘們!有火焰從那大地獄的東牆噴出撞到西牆,從西牆噴出撞到東牆,從北牆噴出撞到南牆,從南牆噴出撞到北牆,從下面噴出撞到上面,從上面噴出撞到下面牆。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!有時,在某時或其他時候,經過長時間後,那大地獄的東門被打開,在那裡,他快速地、急速地跑[向它]。當快速地、急速地跑時,他的外皮被燒、內皮被燒,肉被燒、筋被燒、骨頭冒出大煙,[腳]抬起就像那樣。比丘們!當他快到達時,門被關了。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!有時,在某時或其他時候,經過長時間後,那大地獄的西門被打開,……(中略)。北門被打開,……(中略)。南門被打開,在那裡,他快速地、急速地跑[向它]。當快速地、急速地跑時,他的外皮被燒、內皮被燒,肉被燒、筋被燒、骨頭冒出大煙,[腳]抬起就像那樣。比丘們!當他快到達時,門被關了,他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!有時,在某時或其他時候,經過長時間後,那大地獄的東門被打開,在那裡,他快速地、急速地跑[向它]。當快速地、急速地跑時,他的外皮被燒、內皮被燒,肉被燒、筋被燒、骨頭冒出大煙,[腳]抬起就像那樣。他從那個門出來。
  又,比丘們!那大地獄緊接著大糞便地獄,他掉落那裡。比丘們!他在那糞便地獄中被針口眾生切斷外皮;切斷外皮後,切斷內皮;切斷內皮後,切斷肉;切斷肉後,切斷筋;切斷筋後,切斷骨頭;切斷骨頭後,啃骨頭。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  又,比丘們!那糞便地獄緊接著大熱灰地獄,他掉落那裡。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  又,比丘們!那熱灰地獄緊接著大絹綿樹林:一由旬高、十六指長荊棘、燃燒的、灼熱的、熾熱的,他們令他在那裡爬上、爬下。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  又,比丘們!那絹綿樹林緊接著大劍葉林,他進入那裡。那被風吹動的葉片落下,切斷[他的]手、腳、手與腳、耳、鼻、耳與鼻。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  又,比丘們!那劍葉林緊接著大鹼水河,他掉落那裡。在那裡,他被順流、逆流、順流與逆流運送。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!獄卒們以釣鉤拉起他,使他站在陸地上,他們這麼說:『喂!男子!你想要什麼?』他這麼說:『大德!我餓。』比丘們!獄卒們以燃燒的、灼熱的、熾熱的熱鐵釘打開嘴後,以燃燒的、灼熱的、熾熱的熱鐵球丟入嘴中,它燒唇、嘴、喉、胃,取了腸、腸繫膜以下的部分出去。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。
  比丘們!獄卒們這麼說:『喂!男子!你想要什麼?』他這麼說:『大德!我渴。』比丘們!獄卒們以燃燒的、灼熱的、熾熱的熱鐵釘打開嘴後,以燃燒的、灼熱的、熾熱的熱熔銅灌入嘴中,它燒唇、嘴、喉、胃,取了腸、腸繫膜以下的部分出去。他在那裡感受苦的、激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的感受,直到那惡業滅前,他都不死。比丘們!獄卒們再丟他入大地獄。
  比丘們!從前,閻摩王這麼想:『先生!凡世間作惡不善業者,他們被作像這樣的種種刑罰,願我得為人間眾生!且,願如來阿羅漢遍正覺者出現於世間!願我侍奉世尊!願那位世尊教導我法!願我了知那位世尊的法!』
  又,比丘們!我非聽聞其他沙門婆羅門而這麼說,而只是以我自己所理解、以我自己所見、以我自己所知而說。」
  這就是世尊所說,說了這個後,善逝大師又更進一步這麼說:
  「[雖]被天使們督促,那些人放逸,
   當人們轉生到下劣界時,他們長時間憂愁。
   當這裡的善人被天使督促時,
   他們在善法上隨時不放逸。
   在生與死的生起中,在取著上看見恐怖後,
   他們在生與死的消滅上,以不執取而解脫。
   那些不放逸者是有樂的,在當生中成為寂滅者,
   一切怨恨、恐懼已過去,超越了一切苦。」
  天使經第十終了。
  空品第三終了,其攝頌
  有二種空,未曾有法與巴古勒,
  阿基勒哇大、名叫地生,阿那律與隨雜染,
  愚者與賢者、天使,它們為十則。
MN.130/(10) Devadūtasuttaṃ
   261. Evaṃ me sutaṃ– ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṃ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi– “bhikkhavo”ti. “Bhadante”ti te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṃ. Bhagavā etadavoca–
   “Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, dve agārā sadvārā, tattha cakkhumā puriso majjhe ṭhito passeyya manusse gehaṃ pavisantepi nikkhamantepi anucaṅkamantepi anuvicarantepi; evameva kho ahaṃ, bhikkhave, dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe, sugate duggate yathākammūpage satte pajānāmi– ‘ime vata bhonto sattā kāyasucaritena samannāgatā vacīsucaritena samannāgatā manosucaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ anupavādakā sammādiṭṭhikā sammādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannā. Ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāyasucaritena samannāgatā vacīsucaritena samannāgatā manosucaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ anupavādakā sammādiṭṭhikā sammādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā manussesu upapannā. Ime vata bhonto sattā kāyaduccaritena samannāgatā vacīduccaritena samannāgatā manoduccaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchādiṭṭhikā micchādiṭṭhikammasamādānā te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā pettivisayaṃ upapannā. Ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāyaduccaritena samannāgatā vacīduccaritena samannāgatā manoduccaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchādiṭṭhikā micchādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā tiracchānayoniṃ upapannā. Ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāyaduccaritena samannāgatā vacīduccaritena samannāgatā manoduccaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchādiṭṭhikā micchādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinipātaṃ nirayaṃ upapannā’”ti.
   262. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā nānābāhāsu gahetvā yamassa rañño dassenti– ‘ayaṃ, deva, puriso amatteyyo apetteyyo asāmañño abrāhmañño, na kule jeṭṭhāpacāyī. Imassa devo daṇḍaṃ paṇetū’ti. Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā paṭhamaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjati samanugāhati samanubhāsati– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu paṭhamaṃ devadūtaṃ pātubhūtan’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāddasaṃ, bhante’ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu daharaṃ kumāraṃ mandaṃ uttānaseyyakaṃ sake muttakarīse palipannaṃ semānan’ti? So evamāha– ‘addasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, tassa te viññussa sato mahallakassa na etadahosi– ahampi khomhi jātidhammo, jātiṃ anatīto. Handāhaṃ kalyāṇaṃ karomi kāyena vācāya manasā’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāsakkhissaṃ, bhante, pamādassaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, pamādavatāya na kalyāṇamakāsi kāyena vācāya manasā. Taggha tvaṃ, ambho purisa, tathā karissanti yathā taṃ pamattaṃ. Taṃ kho pana te etaṃ pāpakammaṃ neva mātarā kataṃ na pitarā kataṃ na bhātarā kataṃ na bhaginiyā kataṃ na mittāmaccehi kataṃ na ñātisālohitehi kataṃ na samaṇabrāhmaṇehi kataṃ na devatāhi kataṃ, tayāvetaṃ pāpakammaṃ kataṃ, tvaññevetassa vipākaṃ paṭisaṃvedissasī’”ti.
   263. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā paṭhamaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjitvā samanugāhitvā samanubhāsitvā dutiyaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjati samanugāhati samanubhāsati– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu dutiyaṃ devadūtaṃ pātubhūtan’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāddasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu itthiṃ vā purisaṃ vā jiṇṇaṃ gopānasivaṅkaṃ bhoggaṃ daṇḍaparāyanaṃ pavedhamānaṃ gacchantaṃ āturaṃ gatayobbanaṃ khaṇḍadantaṃ palitakesaṃ vilūnaṃ khalitasiraṃ valinaṃ tilakāhatagattan’ti? So evamāha– ‘addasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, tassa te viññussa sato mahallakassa na etadahosi– ahampi khomhi jarādhammo, jaraṃ anatīto. Handāhaṃ kalyāṇaṃ karomi kāyena vācāya manasā’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāsakkhissaṃ, bhante, pamādassaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, pamādavatāya na kalyāṇamakāsi kāyena vācāya manasā. Taggha tvaṃ, ambho purisa, tathā karissanti yathā taṃ pamattaṃ. Taṃ kho pana te etaṃ pāpakammaṃ neva mātarā kataṃ na pitarā kataṃ na bhātarā kataṃ na bhaginiyā kataṃ na mittāmaccehi kataṃ na ñātisālohitehi kataṃ na samaṇabrāhmaṇehi kataṃ na devatāhi kataṃ, tayāvetaṃ pāpakammaṃ kataṃ, tvaññevetassa vipākaṃ paṭisaṃvedissasī’”ti.
   264. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā dutiyaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjitvā samanugāhitvā samanubhāsitvā tatiyaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjati samanugāhati samanubhāsati– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu tatiyaṃ devadūtaṃ pātubhūtan’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāddasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu itthiṃ vā purisaṃ vā ābādhikaṃ dukkhitaṃ bāḷhagilānaṃ sake muttakarīse palipannaṃ semānaṃ aññehi vuṭṭhāpiyamānaṃ aññehi saṃvesiyamānan’ti? So evamāha– ‘addasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, tassa te viññussa sato mahallakassa na etadahosi– ahampi khomhi byādhidhammo byādhiṃ anatīto. Handāhaṃ kalyāṇaṃ karomi kāyena vācāya manasā’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāsakkhissaṃ, bhante, pamādassaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, pamādavatāya na kalyāṇamakāsi kāyena vācāya manasā. Taggha tvaṃ, ambho purisa, tathā karissanti yathā taṃ pamattaṃ. Taṃ kho pana te etaṃ pāpakammaṃ neva mātarā kataṃ na pitarā kataṃ na bhātarā kataṃ na bhaginiyā kataṃ na mittāmaccehi kataṃ na ñātisālohitehi kataṃ na samaṇabrāhmaṇehi kataṃ na devatāhi kataṃ, tayāvetaṃ pāpakammaṃ kataṃ, tvaññevetassa vipākaṃ paṭisaṃvedissasī’”ti.
   265. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā tatiyaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjitvā samanugāhitvā samanubhāsitvā catutthaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjati samanugāhati samanubhāsati– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu catutthaṃ devadūtaṃ pātubhūtan’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāddasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu rājāno coraṃ āgucāriṃ gahetvā vividhā kammakāraṇā kārente– kasāhipi tāḷente vettehipi tāḷente addhadaṇḍakehipi tāḷente hatthampi chindante pādampi chindante hatthapādampi chindante kaṇṇampi chindante nāsampi chindante kaṇṇanāsampi chindante bilaṅgathālikampi karonte saṅkhamuṇḍikampi karonte rāhumukhampi karonte jotimālikampi karonte hatthapajjotikampi karonte erakavattikampi karonte cīrakavāsikampi karonte eṇeyyakampi karonte baḷisamaṃsikampi karonte kahāpaṇikampi karonte khārāpatacchikampi karonte palighaparivattikampi karonte palālapīṭhakampi karonte tattenapi telena osiñcante sunakhehipi khādāpente jīvantampi sūle uttāsente asināpi sīsaṃ chindante’ti? So evamāha– ‘addasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, tassa te viññussa sato mahallakassa na etadahosi– ye kira, bho, pāpakāni kammāni karonti te diṭṭheva dhamme evarūpā vividhā kammakāraṇā karīyanti, kimaṅgaṃ pana parattha Handāhaṃ kalyāṇaṃ karomi kāyena vācāya manasā’ti? So evamāha – ‘nāsakkhissaṃ, bhante, pamādassaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, pamādavatāya na kalyāṇamakāsi kāyena vācāya manasā. Taggha tvaṃ, ambho purisa, tathā karissanti yathā taṃ pamattaṃ. Taṃ kho pana te etaṃ pāpakammaṃ neva mātarā kataṃ na pitarā kataṃ na bhātarā kataṃ na bhaginiyā kataṃ na mittāmaccehi kataṃ na ñātisālohitehi kataṃ na samaṇabrāhmaṇehi kataṃ na devatāhi kataṃ, tayāvetaṃ pāpakammaṃ kataṃ, tvaññevetassa vipākaṃ paṭisaṃvedissasī’”ti.
   266. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā catutthaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjitvā samanugāhitvā samanubhāsitvā pañcamaṃ devadūtaṃ samanuyuñjati samanugāhati samanubhāsati– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu pañcamaṃ devadūtaṃ pātubhūtan’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāddasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, na tvaṃ addasa manussesu itthiṃ vā purisaṃ vā ekāhamataṃ vā dvīhamataṃ vā tīhamataṃ vā uddhumātakaṃ vinīlakaṃ vipubbakajātan’ti? So evamāha– ‘addasaṃ, bhante’”ti.
   “Tamenaṃ bhikkhave, yamo rājā evamāha– ‘ambho purisa, tassa te viññussa sato mahallakassa na etadahosi– ahampi khomhi maraṇadhammo, maraṇaṃ anatīto. Handāhaṃ kalyāṇaṃ karomi kāyena vācāya manasā’ti? So evamāha– ‘nāsakkhissaṃ, bhante, pamādassaṃ, bhante’”ti.

Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā pañcavidhabandhanaṃ nāma kammakāraṇaṃ karonti– tattaṃ ayokhilaṃ hatthe gamenti, tattaṃ ayokhilaṃ dutiye hatthe gamenti, tattaṃ ayokhilaṃ pāde gamenti, tattaṃ ayokhilaṃ dutiye pāde gamenti, tattaṃ ayokhilaṃ majjhe-urasmiṃ gamenti. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṃ karoti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti. Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā mahāniraye pakkhipanti. So kho pana, bhikkhave, mahānirayo–
   “Catukkaṇṇo catudvāro, vibhatto bhāgaso mito;
   Ayopākārapariyanto, ayasā paṭikujjito.
   “Tassa ayomayā bhūmi, jalitā tejasāyutā;
   Samantā yojanasataṃ, pharitvā tiṭṭhati sabbadā”
   268. “Tassa kho pana, bhikkhave, mahānirayassa puratthimāya bhittiyā acci uṭṭhahitvā pacchimāya bhittiyā paṭihaññati, pacchimāya bhittiyā acci uṭṭhahitvā puratthimāya bhittiyā paṭihaññati, uttarāya bhittiyā acci uṭṭhahitvā dakkhiṇāya bhittiyā paṭihaññati, dakkhiṇāya bhittiyā acci uṭṭhahitvā uttarāya bhittiyā paṭihaññati, heṭṭhā acci uṭṭhahitvā upari paṭihaññati, uparito acci uṭṭhahitvā heṭṭhā paṭihaññati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Hoti kho so, bhikkhave, samayo yaṃ kadāci karahaci dīghassa addhuno accayena tassa mahānirayassa puratthimaṃ dvāraṃ apāpurīyati. So tattha sīghena javena dhāvati. Tassa sīghena javena dhāvato chavimpi ḍayhati, cammampi ḍayhati, maṃsampi ḍayhati, nhārumpi ḍayhati, aṭṭhīnipi sampadhūpāyanti, ubbhataṃ tādisameva hoti. Yato ca kho so, bhikkhave, bahusampatto hoti, atha taṃ dvāraṃ pidhīyati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.

Tasmiṃ kho pana, bhikkhave, gūthaniraye sūcimukhā pāṇā chaviṃ chindanti, chaviṃ chetvā cammaṃ chindanti, cammaṃ chetvā maṃsaṃ chindanti, maṃsaṃ chetvā nhāruṃ chindanti, nhāruṃ chetvā aṭṭhiṃ chindanti, aṭṭhiṃ chetvā aṭṭhimiñjaṃ khādanti. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Tassa kho pana, bhikkhave, gūthanirayassa samanantarā sahitameva mahanto kukkulanirayo. So tattha patati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Tassa kho pana, bhikkhave, kukkulanirayassa samanantarā sahitameva mahantaṃ simbalivanaṃ uddhaṃ yojanamuggataṃ soḷasaṅgulakaṇṭakaṃ ādittaṃ sampajjalitaṃ sajotibhūtaṃ. Tattha āropentipi oropentipi. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Tassa kho pana, bhikkhave, simbalivanassa samanantarā sahitameva mahantaṃ asipattavanaṃ. So tattha pavisati. Tassa vāteritāni pattāni patitāni hatthampi chindanti, pādampi chindanti, hatthapādampi chindanti, kaṇṇampi chindanti, nāsampi chindanti, kaṇṇanāsampi chindanti. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Tassa kho pana, bhikkhave, asipattavanassa samanantarā sahitameva mahatī khārodakā nadī. So tattha patati. So tattha anusotampi vuyhati paṭisotampi vuyhati, anusotapaṭisotampi vuyhati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   270. “Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā balisena uddharitvā thale patiṭṭhāpetvā evamāhaṃsu– ‘ambho purisa, kiṃ icchasī’ti? So evamāha– ‘jighacchitosmi, bhante’ti. Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā tattena ayosaṅkunā mukhaṃ vivaritvā ādittena sampajjalitena sajotibhūtena tattaṃ lohaguḷaṃ mukhe pakkhipanti ādittaṃ sampajjalitaṃ sajotibhūtaṃ. So tassa oṭṭhampi dahati, mukhampi dahati, kaṇṭhampi dahati, urampi dahati, antampi antaguṇampi ādāya adhobhāgā nikkhamati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti.
   “Tamenaṃ bhikkhave, nirayapālā evamāhaṃsu– ‘ambho purisa, kiṃ icchasī’ti? So evamāha– ‘pipāsitosmi, bhante’ti. Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā tattena ayosaṅkunā mukhaṃ vivaritvā ādittena sampajjalitena sajotibhūtena tattaṃ tambalohaṃ mukhe āsiñcanti ādittaṃ sampajjalitaṃ sajotibhūtaṃ. Taṃ tassa oṭṭhampi dahati, mukhampi dahati, kaṇṭhampi dahati, urampi dahati, antampi antaguṇampi ādāya adhobhāgā nikkhamati. So tattha dukkhā tibbā kharā kaṭukā vedanā vedeti, na ca tāva kālaṅkaroti, yāva na taṃ pāpakammaṃ byantīhoti. Tamenaṃ, bhikkhave, nirayapālā puna mahāniraye pakkhipanti.
   “Bhūtapubbaṃ, bhikkhave, yamassa rañño etadahosi– ‘ye kira bho, loke pāpakāni akusalāni kammāni karonti te evarūpā vividhā kammakāraṇā karīyanti. Aho vatāhaṃ manussattaṃ labheyyaṃ. Tathāgato ca loke uppajjeyya arahaṃ sammāsambuddho. Tañcāhaṃ bhagavantaṃ payirupāseyyaṃ. So ca me bhagavā dhammaṃ deseyya. Tassa cāhaṃ bhagavato dhammaṃ ājāneyyan’ti. Taṃ kho panāhaṃ, bhikkhave, nāññassa samaṇassa vā brāhmaṇassa vā sutvā vadāmi, api ca yadeva sāmaṃ ñātaṃ sāmaṃ diṭṭhaṃ sāmaṃ viditaṃ tadevāhaṃ vadāmī”ti.
   271. Idamavoca bhagavā. Idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā–
   “Coditā devadūtehi, ye pamajjanti māṇavā;
   Te dīgharattaṃ socanti, hīnakāyūpagā narā.
   “Ye ca kho devadūtehi, santo sappurisā idha;
   Coditā nappamajjanti, ariyadhamme kudācanaṃ.
   “Upādāne bhayaṃ disvā, jātimaraṇasambhave;
   Anupādā vimuccanti, jātimaraṇasaṅkhaye.
   “Te khemappattā sukhino, diṭṭhadhammābhinibbutā;
   Sabbaverabhayātītā, sabbadukkhaṃ upaccagun”ti.
   Devadūtasuttaṃ niṭṭhitaṃ dasamaṃ.
   Suññatavaggo niṭṭhito tatiyo.
   Tassuddānaṃ
   Dvidhāva suññatā hoti, abbhutadhammabākulaṃ;
   Aciravatabhūmijanāmo, anuruddhupakkilesaṃ.
