  「比丘們!現在世間中存在這四種賢駿馬,哪四種呢?
  比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿馬看到鞭影後,驚怖、來到畏懼:『現在馴馬師將對我作什麼懲罰?我應該作什麼對策吧?』比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿馬,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第一種賢駿馬。
  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿馬只看到鞭影後,並不驚怖、來到畏懼,但鞭入身毛了,才驚怖、來到畏懼:『現在馴馬師將對我作什麼懲罰?我應該作什麼對策吧?』比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿馬,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第二種賢駿馬。
  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿馬只看到鞭影後,並不驚怖、來到畏懼,鞭入身毛了,也不驚怖、來到畏懼,但鞭入皮膚了才驚怖、來到畏懼:『現在馴馬師將對我作什麼懲罰?我應該作什麼對策吧?』比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿馬,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第三種賢駿馬。
  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿馬只看到鞭影後,並不驚怖、來到畏懼,鞭入身毛了,也不驚怖、來到畏懼,鞭入皮膚了也不驚怖、來到畏懼,但鞭入骨頭了,才驚怖、來到畏懼:『現在馴馬師將對我作什麼懲罰?我應該作什麼對策吧?』比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿馬,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第四種賢駿馬。
  比丘們!這些是現在世間中存在的四種賢駿馬。同樣的,比丘們!現在世間中存在這四類賢駿人,哪四種呢?
  比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿人聽聞:『在像那樣名字的村落或城鎮,有女人或男人受苦或死了。』他因此驚怖、來到畏懼;被驚怖而如理勤奮,自我努力,就以身體作證最高的真理,以慧貫通後看見,比丘們!猶如賢駿馬看到鞭影後,驚怖、來到畏懼,比丘們!我說這種賢駿人像這樣的譬喻,比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿人,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第一種賢駿人。

  再者,比丘們!這裡,某一種賢駿人沒聽聞:『在像那樣名字的村落或城鎮,有女人或男人受苦或死了。』也沒親自看見在像那樣名字的村落或城鎮,有女人或男人受苦或死了,也無他的親族或血親受苦或死了,但他以身體感受激烈的、猛烈的、辛辣的、不愉快的、不合意的、奪命的苦而親自遭遇到了,他因此驚怖、來到畏懼;被驚怖而如理勤奮,自我努力,就以身體作證最高的真理,以慧貫通後看見,比丘們!猶如賢駿馬被鞭入骨頭了而驚怖、來到畏懼,比丘們!我說這種賢駿人像這樣的譬喻,比丘們!這裡,有如此之類的賢駿人,比丘們!這是現在世間中存在的第四種賢駿人。
  比丘們!這些是現在世間中存在的四種賢駿人。」

   113. “Cattārome bhikkhave, bhadrā assājānīyā santo saṃvijjamānā lokasmiṃ. Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco bhadro assājānīyo patodacchāyaṃ disvā saṃvijjati saṃvegaṃ āpajjati– ‘kiṃ nu kho maṃ ajja assadammasārathi kāraṇaṃ kāressati, kimassāhaṃ paṭikaromī’ti! Evarūpopi, bhikkhave, idhekacco bhadro assājānīyo hoti. Ayaṃ, bhikkhave, paṭhamo bhadro assājānīyo santo saṃvijjamāno lokasmiṃ.
   “Puna caparaṃ, bhikkhave, idhekacco bhadro assājānīyo na heva kho patodacchāyaṃ disvā saṃvijjati saṃvegaṃ āpajjati, api ca kho lomavedhaviddho saṃvijjati saṃvegaṃ āpajjati– ‘kiṃ nu kho maṃ ajja assadammasārathi kāraṇaṃ kāressati, kimassāhaṃ paṭikaromī’ti! Evarūpopi, bhikkhave, idhekacco bhadro assājānīyo hoti. Ayaṃ, bhikkhave, dutiyo bhadro assājānīyo santo saṃvijjamāno lokasmiṃ.

So tena saṃvijjati, saṃvegaṃ āpajjati. Saṃviggo yoniso padahati. Pahitatto kāyena ceva paramasaccaṃ sacchikaroti, paññāya ca ativijjha passati. Seyyathāpi so, bhikkhave, bhadro assājānīyo aṭṭhivedhaviddho saṃvijjati saṃvegaṃ āpajjati; tathūpamāhaṃ, bhikkhave, imaṃ bhadraṃ purisājānīyaṃ vadāmi.
